For the record, before the Alvarez fight, I would have picked Justin Gaethje no question vs Poirier. Now that Gaethje has finally been cracked, I’m a little less sure. Still picking him.

Israel Adesanya takes SD over Marvin Vettori.
Who the hell gave Vettori two rounds?
Probably isn’t what anyone, ufc included wanted, but Adesanya takes a hard fought “W”. Adesanya was styling on Vettori in the first two rounds but it wasn’t like Vettori wasn’t landing. Fatigued, he got taken down in the 3rd. Vettori didn’t do much with it but it was enough for him to take the round.
One thing Adesanya does well that other high level kickboxers (and boxers) struggle with when the transition to MMA is to finish exchanges with space. They close space when throwing when they should stick at range (I think that’s one of the reasons Wonderboy has been successful).

I don’t get the Jones comparisons for Adesanya besides their both black, long, and have chicken legs. Adesanya is a waaay better boxer and it’s primary mode of offense unlike Jones.
Brad Tavares stops Krzysztof Jotko in the 3rd!
Counters an uppercut from Jotko with a right hand that splits the guard and puts Jotko down and out. Huge win for Tavares as this is his first stoppage win since stopping Phil Baroni at UFC 125.
