I made a post yesterday mentioning how the dye of Chronos' bangs changes depending on who he dedicates his loyalty to— this is a deliberate act on his part. A sign of surrender, giving himself up to be nothing more than the supporting act of someone else's show. More gruesomely, it can even be considered a kind of self-branding.

Chronos doesn't see himself as his own person for the most part, and finding someone to obsess over follow blindly gives him a purpose in his eyes. I've given a few examples above, both positive and negative that influence the endings in the story (I implore you to ignore the glaring issues in each edit, I worked on these by hand straight after a shift and I was exhausted lol). Having been rejected multiple times by people with the faces of those he loved for not being "a good enough Tails", he dedicates himself entirely to the concept of being useful, of being a good sidekick, regardless of whether or not he may resent or even fear the subject in question.

When he's validated or treated with respect enough, he'll start to cling and the obsession develops. It becomes a constant need to please and be useful, a desperation for acceptance, for validation from the new centerfold of his life, therefore resulting the dye change. Of course a lot of that also comes from the fact that he was taken away from his father so young, and is trying to find someone to fill that void.
