who comes from a much different life on earth then the rest. of hot days in the sun. mucking stalls till hands ache. running after horses in pasture. up before the sun to make rounds in a freezing barn. that is before earth became uninhabitable for horses
you were brought in an effort to train pandoran animals. the rda figured with your background, and impressive record in the show ring, you could really do something out there. they were making absolutely no ground on their own
so youre sent to set up shop with some of the field guys to capture animals, get them rideable. train them to be working animals that can be used like the ones on earth
only issue is it’s much harder to train a horse when it’s 10x your size. so they cook up your very own avatar
it’s while you’re out trying to grab a direhorse that you meet him. and oh does tsu’tey hate you. he pins you to the ground, knocking your headset off your face and snarling into your ear
you give up a good fight, bruising him up and leaving a nasty scar on his shoulder. he does not forget you after this. and his hate begins to boil and churn within him
when he sees you suddenly with jake sully, tagging along his training, he charges at you. it’s jake that gets in the way.
they sent you here with him to try and cover better ground with the animals, learn the ways of the navi bc you and your guys back at base and not having the best time. a direhorse and quarter horse are not interchangeable
“wouldn’t do that if i were you big guy.” you smile
and tsu’tey curls his lips in disgust, but drops the knife.
you learn fast, warriors teaching you their own secrets on how to approach, to listen or body langue. each mount has its quirks, and soon enough you find yourself on the back of one. bonding together to feel. if you had this ability on earth you would’ve been the best damn rider in the ring
you soften learning the ways. understanding to feel. and you can’t let yourself play as a pawn for the rda to use such creatures for their own advantage
tsu’tey sees this change in you. and he takes it upon himself to teach you. riding through the forest till you reach the bend of a stream, quieter here than most parts of the forest.
“why are you training me now?”
“i am the best rider. “ he simply says at your probing questions.
“i was the best on earth. “ you counter back. sliding on the back of you horse for the day, akanai.
“you have direhorse?” he grunts, crouching over the water and bringing a cupped hand to his face to wash.
“we had them once. different, a lot smaller. they don’t exist anymore. they took them all.” a pained smile marks your face.
“they take your mounts?”
“yes. when the water dried up. and the food stopped. the people in charge told us that animals were a waste of what little we had left. and they took my babies.”
“it is a sad thing.”
“it was. but it was a long time ago.”
“you ride direhorse well, for a demon. “
you chuckle softly. “don’t get all sappy on me.”
he tilts his head, ears twitching. “what is sappy?”
“a saying. means emotional. “
he frowns like he’s offended. “it is the truth. “
“i know. thank you. “
heading back to camp with a small smile on your face and wondering why your face heats up when he stares at you like that. why you keep dreaming of him, of a life together where you ride as much as your heart desires. knowing damn well the one you desire most is truly him
you could have a nice life with him you think
