We are an academic sorority.
What are the eligibility requirements, if any, to join your organization?
Potential members must possess a 2.4 standing GPA or higher, as well as a genuine interest in the organization’s beliefs and pillars. After attending recruitment events, potential members will go through the interview process as well as an informative process to learn about the sorority’s history where they will also be tested on the information they are taught. They must complete this process successfully in order to become an active member.
What is the purpose or mission of your organization on campus?
The purpose of Delta Xi Phi at the University of Illinois at Chicago is to create a safe space for women who value community service, the advancement of women through higher education, sisterhood, friendship, and multiculturalism. We hope to use our strength as an organization to empower women on campus, advocate for a more multicultural society, and encourage the advancement of women through higher education.
What specific events, services, and/or experiences do you offer UIC students/members?
We offer a scholarship once a year in the spring semester which any full time UIC student may apply for, as well as various social events and workshops throughout the academic year for our members and UIC students and faculty. We host fundraisers (such as henna tables, and raffles) for our philanthropy- the American Cancer Society. Our sisters often volunteer for events such as the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Hot Chocolate Run, as well as Expanding Your Horizons (a conference hosted at UIC which encourages young girls to pursue STEM careers), too. Overall, we aim to give back to the community through our volunteer opportunities as well as informative workshops that offer students and faculty a safe space to discuss the ideas and beliefs that we share as an organization.
