Ever wonder what happened to 3D platformers? Well Playtonic (a group consisting of the creators of Banjo-Kazooie and the original Donkey Kong Country games) has answered this question with Yooka-Laylee. It will star the odd pair of a chameleon and bat featured above and have the same quirky sense of humor that their previous games were known to have.
The game is being Kickstarted and you can find it and fund it right here. The game had been funded within hours of being on Kickstarter, and it doubled their goal even going on to break £1,000,000 (which is over $1,500,000 in US dollars).
As far as gameplay, it will be very similar to the classic 3D platformers and feature many collectibles and well... platforms. There will be different moves such as flying and spitting out your tongue at enemies. There will also be an arcade machine hidden in each world which will feature “old-school gaming goodness”.
The game is estimated to be released in October of 2016 (but it will most likely be delayed a year or two cause... Kickstarter). It will be released for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Wii U. The music will be composed by Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie series) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country series). With the visuals, music, and classic 3D platforming gaming reminiscent of the 90s, this should be a great experience for all ages come 2016.
