March X Reader (Fields of Mistria) - Guinea Pig
I have the writing itch for this twink, and after the guinea pig quest it was all I could think about so, enjoy, also this could also have a part 2 so like lemme know if anyone's interested in a continuation of it and this is also the first fanfic I've posted online in years lol, usually I just write bits and pieces for myself so yeah I've not posted it online in like half a decade or something
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had all been going fine. Juniper had stopped testing her potions, tonics, and elixirs on the townsfolk, and instead you were at her beck and call to test them out instead. It’d been fine. Sure, you may have grown some ears here, a tail there, or occasionally felt like you were on deaths door, but the worse results gave you a handful of free baths, and most importantly, it stopped her testing on the townsfolk.
Especially Ulric.
You’d grown close with the blacksmithing brothers, and Ulric was a good friend, and March was . . . at least that. March spent so much time at the forge or his design table, you had no fears of him being used as a guinea pig, but Ulric was sweet but naive. He was enthusiastic about his work, minerals, exercise, and his brother. You can understand that even more after Josephine had told you the brothers lost their parents when they were young, so when you had seen Juniper laughing behind her hand as he unknowingly grew bunny ears on his head after trying one of her concoctions? You had no choice. He’s your friend, and . . .
You sigh briefly, thoughts tumbling in your head as you sit at the inn, an untouched plate in front of you and a bubbling feeling growing in your stomach. Did you know how else to explain it? No. Did you feel like you were at risk of exploding from either end every second that this feeling went on? Yes. However, March was across the table from you, smiling, talking to people, drinking his beer, and having invited you for a meal at the inn to begin with. Sure, when you first came to town at the allure of free land, ‘I mean, who wouldn’t take that deal?’, he was borderline hostile to you. ‘Well, I suppose it wasn’t just borderline when he gave me that hoe,’ you think to yourself, ‘it made it clear as crystal just how much he cares for the town.’ “Hey, are you alright?” March asks, snapping your attention away from your thoughts. “You haven’t touched your soup.” His eyes scan you, cheeks flushed with his drinking.
There’s another burst of bubbles developing as you pick up your spoon, an absent thought wandering up at how delayed a reaction that last potion had. I mean, it was hours ago and I was fine until it was time to meet with March.
“Yeah, I’m just tired,” You smile as you lift a spoonful of soup up to your mouth. You eye it off warily, nausea building at the thought of adding anything to the bubbling accident waiting to happen in your stomach.
“Well then, why don’t you go take a bath!” You almost jump right out of your seat as Juniper seems to appear out of nowhere, her hand planted on the table as she beams at you.
“After all, my bathhouse makes everyone feel as good as new, doesn’t it?”
The table falls silent amongst the bustling inn. Ulric and Ryis now pausing their conversations to look over at you and Juniper, March watching you, and Juniper, whos eyes look ready to start twitching as she tilts her head.
Almost absently, you nod your head slowly and begin to get up from the table. The action makes your head spin violently and you clutch the edge of the table. Your grip on the table doesn’t feel enough to stop your body lurching to the side. The brief thoughts about tripping over the bench is halted when you crash down into something warm and not hard enough to actually hurt you.
“I’m taking you home.” March says, having caught you. He readjusts both himself and yourself until you’ve got an arm over his shoulders.
“W-what? No, I’m fine,” You stammer out. “Finish your food and drink, it’s alright-” March starts walking away, causing you to stumble for a few steps until he stops again. “You almost fell while standing up!” He scowls, the flush on his face seeming brighter. “Now come on, I’m taking you home.”
You blink a few times, before conceding and nodding with a sigh. The two of you barely get past where Balor sets his cart up before the sensation of pre vomit starts building up. When you try to break away from March, he doesn’t let go.
“March, let me go, I need to-” You’re cut off as you lurch to the side harshly enough to pull March along with you, throwing up into one of the bushes. He pulls his weight off you and shuffles back, a hand over his mouth as you throw up.
Once finished, you shuffle back from the poor bush, who looks to be wilting already- ‘What was in that one, Juniper?’- breathing heavily to catch your breath again.
“Feeling any better?” March asks, a hand over his mouth as he offers you a rag from his apron to wipe your mouth on.
“A little.” You take the rag and clean yourself up, before your face starts burning that you just threw up in front of, and nearly on, March.
“If you weren’t feeling well we could’ve just had a meal together another night you know.” He scowls.
You immediately frown. “I was feeling fine literally up until I was meeting you.” You snap, bunching the rag up in your hand.
“That would’ve still been enough to reschedule!”
“Oh really? And remind me again, how often is it that you actually invite me to do anything? Much less share a meal?”
“I would have waited until you were feeling better!”
“Yeah sure! Because it’s definitely not like you to think first and be pissy before you do anything else!”
“Hey, I said I was sorry!”
“Yeah well at least be grateful it wasn’t Ulric or someone else in town that you actually like that wasn’t dealing with this!”
The sudden silence save for sounds of the night rings out between the pair of you.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” March asks quietly.
You groan internally, hitting yourself in your forehead. “Forget about it, it’s nothing.”
March scowls at you. “Really? You blurt out that it could’ve been Ulric or someone else and then tell me it’s nothing?”
You scowl back. “FINE THEN! I’ve been Juniper’s guinea pig for all her concoctions instead of everyone else in town, since I went to see her about a health tonic request, and she laughed at Ulric growing a pair of ears from something she gave him!”
Kid me used to ship them hard.
