Could you explain/go more into detail about Sorrow from the "Genos Star Warrior Program" fic/au? (Like how he got the power to corrupt, his goal, etc.)
OK, I'll see how well I can summarize this all up for you and anyone else on Tumblr who's interested.
The Geno's Star Warrior Program AU was started several months ago, beginning as the brainchild of @nintendonut1, built on the premise of Geno seeing the value of protecting the mortals of the surface world from dangers personally. He gets permission from the Star Council, the seven Star Spirits featured in Paper Mario, to start the program in a campsite built in the outskirts of the Forest Maze. He then invites other Star Spirits who want to come down and help defend the people below to find a host body like the wooden doll he chose (most choose similar wooden dolls, but there are exceptions) and come find the campsite to join the GSWP.
When Nutty pitched the AU concept on Discord, a number of us joined in with our own characters (both original and fan takes on canon) to be part of the program. One Star Spirit to come down and possess a doll was Dawson, the creation of @w3ds3n, who found his doll around Monstro Town. However, around the same time he found and attuned to his doll form, Dawson was struck by a corrupting influence born from Culex's presence. Twisted into a sadistic being that came to be known as Sorrow, he thrived on spreading misery to others and just plain oozed rancid vibes.
Sorrow eventually made his way to the Forest Maze region where began corrupting Star Dolls who strayed too far from the campsite. Each one would end up fighting the other Star Warriors of the program until the corruption could be purged of the corrupting influence, leaving the members of the program initially confused as to what was happening until they started piecing together the source of their problems. After Geno, the leader and arguably strongest member of the program, got corrupted himself, the camp was able to work together beat and cure him of the corruption. And that's the point of the story where Geno decided it was time to take the fight to Sorrow himself.
One of Geno's elderly advisors, a staunch traditionalist (and frankly, kind of an overall jerk) named Ash, insisted they would have to destroy Sorrow, but a small group of Star Warriors worked behind his back to devise a way to instead fully purify Sorrow of his own corruption and free Dawson. That, of course, is an entirely other story.
