We took part in a comic workshop for professional illustrators and comic artists called “Zerbröckelt und Geklaubt”.
Each one of us had 5 days to create a comic. In the end we put all contributions into a zine. The original pages have been exhibited at our local comic book store Ultra Comix and the zine is sold there, too.
In the end we even got mentioned in the newspaper.
We had an extremely good time and we can’t wait to do something like this again!

I have been living in Germany for a couple of months now. But just because I don’t know German will not stop me from enjoying the local comic shops.
To my sweet joy, the tour guide for Nuremberg pointed me to direction of a “small” shop, Ultra Comix. When the tour guide first explained to me the shop was the second biggest comic book store of all of Europe next to Great Britain’s, he was not kidding.
It was love at first sight when I stepped in to this place. It was four stories of ultra nerdum!
As soon as I went up the stairs to the second floor, I quickly realized why the manga was on the first floor. The room was twice as big, full of volumes upon volumes of graphic novels and comics. Marvel, DC, Vertigo, Black Horse, IDW, Image, Slave Labor, and smaller independent comics could be found. To my pleasant surprise, some the comics were in English.
But, I did notice that single issues in German were very hard to find. “It is difficult to find single issues in Germany since it is easier to get in Volume form and Germans still regard comics as something for children.” explained the tour guide. We both sighed at this comment.
“If only the people who thought that knew there was art to be found in comics” I replied.
There was not much to the floor in the very top. It was just a room where people can enjoy board or card games. When I walked in, all the boys were staring at me strangely like I was some alien. I decided to leave since I was very new to Magic the Gathering and DnD to sit with anyone. Not to mention, I still barely knew any German.
My Nerdgasm reached its peak when I headed downstairs to the basement floor underground the store. Merchandise from Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Avatar, pretty much every movie and comic merchandise I could think off was here. I squealed with delight when I saw the fake weapons and costumes for LARPING (live action role playing). This place had it all for a little nerd like me.
So, if anyone is ever in Germany, stop by Nuremberg to see this awesome place. It’s a like peace of Nerd Heaven . ^.^
