my options for community service over spring break
i have to choose by tomorrow and i have no idea which one i want to do- these are the ones I've narrowed it down to:
The Effects of HIV/AIDS and Support Services: Learn about the effects of HIV/AIDS on individuals and the community. Take part in teaching others about the disease and how it can be prevented. Work in the community to provide services that minimize the effects of HIV/AIDS.
Immigration, Border Issues, and US/Mexican Relations: Form relationships with an immigrant community and become acquainted with the border and individual experiences in the migratory process. Learn about immigration laws and legislation such as NAFTA which effects relations between the US and Mexico. Work alongside individuals in community development efforts, such as after-school care projects and home restoration, which focus on the lives of undocumented workers.
LGBTQ Advocacy: Legislation, Rights, and People: Learn about Prop 8, the freedom to marry, and the Free Education Act. Participate in a campaign to educate voters and the community on Prop 8 and other related legislation. Dispel stereotypes and work alongside individuals of the LGBTQ community to learn about these issues from their perspectives.
Native American Traditions and Tribe Reestablishment: Live and work alongside a Native American tribe that has resettled on their hereditary homeland. Learn about the history of the tribe as they continue to work at the restructuring of traditional values, the reestablishment of a relationship with land and the natural world, and the revitalization of their hereditary language. Participate in everyday chores throughout the communal household, farm, garden preparation and other outside work. In the evenings, join the tribe’s spiritual leader and learn about the history and traditions of the tribe.
Serving Individuals with Disabilities through Urban Farming: Work alongside individuals with disabilities in an urban farm setting. Learn about the positive effects of employment and farming for these individuals. Also, educate yourself on sustainable food efforts in an urban environment by participating in the farming process and greenhouse gardening.
