Just A little Video explaining who we are... Make sure to share it with everyone you know! (No seriously...) #PSAUMD #SexualAssault #UMDCollegePark #UMD
PSA: Real Talk We have these events every so often so that we can create a safe space, and show people that talking about sexual assault isn't a "bad" thing to do. It shouldn't be awkward, or uncomfortable, or anything like that. You should be able to sit down at a bar, drink a beer, and talk openly about it. Thats why we're here. We're fighting this stigma. We're fighting this epidemic. We're fighting for our own safety, and the safety of others. So, can't wait to see you guys there!
#Human
I think it’s important to remember that we are only human.
Today, I ran into someone that brought up a lot of old things. Nothing that needs to be discussed here, but it is relevant.
If you made it to our last general body meeting, you will remember that the topic of discussion was triggers. How they work, why they affect us, etc. You remember the whole conversation very well, possibly, because it has happened to you.
And I know that there is a great deal of shame that comes along with it.
You don’t want to feel like a burden to the people around you, but you still want their help. And, at the same time, you just want people to leave you alone, but you don’t really want to feel alone,
It’s a difficult spot to be in, I know. I’ve been there. And sometimes, I go back there.
But we shouldn’t be ashamed of these things. We should embrace them. Acknowledge their existence. Don’t let them control us, but realize that we don’t really have much control over them either.
You can’t stop the sky from being blue. You can’t stop the grass from being green. You can’t make water dry. And you can’t not breathe air.
And you don’t try to.
Some things just are.
So we leave them.
Now, realize that I am not saying that we should try to overcome our hardships. It is imperative to the human experience, if it is to be fully realized, that we strive to be better. To heal.
But healing does not stem from shame. And you have nothing to be ashamed of.
So, no more hiding in the shadows. We are all in this together. And our humanity depends on our awareness of the communities that we have around us.
Communities of women. Communities of men. Communities of both, and of neither.
Communities of humans.
And we are here for you.
Remember that you are loved.
