Josephine Tey, The Man in the Queue
London slow-pop musician DAUNT is back with the second cut and title track from his forthcoming EP Unbearable Light. We’ve become more than familiar with this emerging talent’s slinky smooth fusion of electronica, pop, alt, and soul on prior songs like Beamish Boy and This Body Rushes, the latter of which we first caught wind over two years ago. DAUNT is taking his fine time presenting us with new music, but the wait has been more than “bearable” considering the mesmeric gems he continues to give us. Unbearable Light is a somber hymnal with a soft hip hop beat, limber plucking guitar, and stark mournful keys. “Do you feel alone?” questions DAUNT. It’s hard not to feel the isolation and solitude which he sings of on his song, but for a moment, we’re happy to be alone, here, cruising to Unbearable Light with DAUNT. The British artist’s music is said to be influenced by swung hip-hop beats, classic soul rhythms, and 70s funk/disco bass lines, as well as genre-experimentation of artists like Beck and Glass Animals. Unbearable Light is available now from iTunes.

Tereza knew what happens during the moment love is born: the woman cannot resist the voice calling forth her terrified soul; the man cannot resist the woman whose soul thus responds to his voice. Tomas had no defense against the lure of love, and Tereza feared for him every minute of every hour.
