Finally awake after 17 alarms and a forcible kick of blankets off his bed, Denki shoots Kirishima another set of texts before throwing on a shirt so he could head down stairs. It’s kind of disappointing he didn’t get to throw his love and affection at his classmate right at the turn of the day, but he’ll get over it.

a tray balanced in one hand, bakugou appears a waiter that hates his job. it’s the nerves more than anything. gift giving is something bakugou would like to pride himself on — but the truth of the matter is he’s not that good at it. it doesn’t matter how much thought or consideration he puts into finding something suitable... it never feels good enough. a voice in the back of his head teases that it might just be an extension of his personality but who’s to say? he’s not a fucking doctor. he does his best. if his best is staying up late all week to make the perfect batch of homemade protein bars ( that don’t taste like a stick of straight up protein power ) then hopefully kirishima will at least enjoy them.

knuckles make noise against the door that’s become synonymous with kirishima in his brain. he considers ( late, considering ) that he might be asleep. the second knock is louder.

heelys engaged, denki rolls up to their usual table in the food court, the straw of a honeydew milk tea caught between his teeth. “ KIRI — you won’t heckin’ believe what just happened to me. ”  he places chai one in front of kirishima and plots down in the booth beside him. “ there was a guy working at the bookstore that looks JUST like kylo ren, doing an interpretive dance. i think i’m IN LOVE. ”

The boy stared hard at the other, thoughts whirring throughout his mind to the point where if someone noticed him, they could actually see the gears going, probably steaming from the amount of concentration. Finally, he decided to talk, approaching the other. “I have to ask, man.” There was a smile that made its way to his lips. “Do you even understand half the memes that go on in our group chat?”

He would wait a second or two before shaking his head, laughing a little bit. “No, that wasn’t my actual question. I actually wanted to know if you have a hero blog written about you yet? Or a few forums? I think a few of us got them after being on television a few times.”

        kirishima’s words halt him two steps into the room, a stop sign. the pause turns into a full breakdown in the time it takes for bakugou to register any of the words after baby. hazard lights flicker somewhere behind his eyes; a car pulled over on the side of the road at night, he exhales a stalling exhaust.

 “ i’m a what-the-fuck? ”  taillights are dull compared to the red of his cheeks, “ how the hell do you just — say things… like that? what the fuck does that even mean? ”
