Really wish we could quit this shell-game between "Everything is political" (true but vacuous), "This work is political" (Creators were attempting to communicate a specific political position that they hold via the themes, characterization and the rest, in a way you can argue using the content of the text) and "This work is political" (Creators weren't deliberately communicating a specific political stance but what the story takes for granted speaks volumes about the moment of its creation)

Deeply, deeply aggravating when people stumble upon an ethical justification to hate something they already loathe for different reasons and get just insufferably smug about it.

Like shut up about how much water AI art uses. You never cared about water use in data centres before and assuredly never will again if it doesn't help you win some dumb internet argument.

The problem with Democrats and violence remains the same as it was before:

Anti-Republican violence does not build housing or infrastructure.

Anti-Republican violence won't solve that we do not know how to make all children educationally equal.

Anti-Republican violence won't yield ten times the amount of healthcare per percent GDP.

One cannot violently attack Trump voters into children learning how to read. The schools generally aren't underfunded, and blue jurisdictions not teaching how to read is not caused by Republicans.

Which gets us to the more general problem, which is that the people who want violence are the kind of people who "know" a lot of things, like "the schools are underfunded," that are false. It's very tribal.

I know this is probably something I’m gonna regret posting, but I keep seeing all these posts on the socials that are like “white people heartsick about the murder of Renee Good, where were you when her name was Breonna Taylor or his name was George Floyd?”

And I’m just like… where was I? This specific white crip?

In a protest march screaming Black Lives Matter till my throat gave out, personally.

I get that you’re angry. I get that you’re hurt.

But don’t let that hurt blind you to the people who DID do their best to have your back.

They want us divided.

Me, writing world building and writing advice circa 1700: If your setting doesn’t have anyone with smallpox scars or anyone who has lost a friend or loved one to smallpox, because “ooh, it’s the future and we’ve magically eradicated smallpox with futuristic medical technologies :)” then I’ll assume your story really has nothing worthwhile to say about the human condition.

to some extent hg wants to have its cake and eat it too, it wants to criticize sankta hegemony and ethnosupremacy while at the same time prioritizing the feelings of said sankta about their position within the hierarchy and depicting them as Cool And Badass people outside of the story etc etc , ultimately we get to read a million words about how sankta must find their own way ☺️ and treat others better! while the liberi & sarkaz characters are relegated to side characters and npcs
