as thrilling as the next adventure might be, in the end you're always left with that same feeling. sometimes you just gotta choose what you're gonna keep and what you're gonna let go.
@tigerlilyis a long term Sam fic maybe 😬 give me notes and I will write it xx
“You said we weren't being followed!” It was hard to scream above the roar of the engine beneath you and the barrage of bullets that were firing at all angles around you. It was hard enough to weave in and out of the tight town house alleys before you, that was without having to duck and be wary of being struck by an errant bullet flying your way.
More shots were fired by your co-hort , leaning through the window of the SUV you were attempting to control. “I said I didn't THINK they were following us!” With barely a glance at you they returned to shooting at your assailants, trying to pick them off one by one so that you could at least lose them in the city, trying to give you both enough time to abandon your vehicle and disappear into the crowd.
Gripping so hard on the steering wheel before you turned your knuckles white, there were many things you wanted to say but only one word came out. “FUCK!” you slammed your hands on the wheel in anger only just before realising you were now running out of road to escape on.
It looked like you and your companion would be facing the end of the line, everything you had accomplished until now would be all for naught, that is, until you had one final idea. “If they want us, they can have us.”
Staring down at the building before you, racing closer and closer towards it you had one final idea. With one last hope of desperation you ragged the steering wheel as far as it would to one side, skidding in a 180 move that almost threw your partner into your side and throwing you off course.
Now you were staring down the metaphorical chamber of a gun, an army of armoured vehicles and errant bullets were quickly heading your way. Without hesitation, you hit the accelerator and darted forward.
With laser focus you managed to weave in and out of the army of cars moving towards you, grabbing your partner by the shirt and pulling him into the car at the same time, a feat that was only possible due to the adrenaline now coursing through your veins.
Everything was a blur, yet it all happened in slow motion at the same time, barely missing bullets and grazing the cars after you, not even being able to revel in the satisfaction of watching them crash into each other in confusion in your rear view mirror.
This wasn't even a calculated risk, this was idiotic but somehow you managed to pull through and leave the army of vehicles behind you, piling up in a fiery heap as you sped away to freedom.
The adrenaline finally wore off after a few hours and you both felt comfortable enough that you were safe from your pursuers. You almost fell out of the car door as you parked up on a dark alley, the rush of adrenaline ceased and now all you felt was dizziness and nausea.
The feeling of your heartbeat was loud in your ears, drowning out whatever ranting and raving you could hear in the distance. It felt like hours until you finally calmed down, the sound of your heartbeat slowly faded away, letting your partner's ranting voice become louder and louder, having no regard that you were still on all fours on the floor.
“Well?!” Well what?, is what you thought, didn't you just save the two of you?
The blank look on your face as you stared up at him seemed to enrage him further. “What the fuck was that?!” He wasn't really mad, you could see that in his face, the adrenaline just hadn't worn off yet like it had done with you.
Sighing you sat up and leant back against the car that you would soon abandon.”I had no choice Sam, I either drove through that building and got us killed, or take a chance and save us.” Quiet was all that stood between you for a few moments, only broken by the laugh of your partner Sam who had now taken an exhausted seat next to you.
A small chuckled escaped his lips, finally the excitement had worn off and he was back to himself. “Well next time warn me before you do something stupid.” A cheeky nudge with his elbow made you laugh at him, wondering how dare he say that to you.
“Hey I thought that was my line.” an exhausted laugh escaped you, leaning your head upon Sam's shoulder you gave out a whisper. “Do you think we can do this?”
No reply ever escaped Sam, he felt just the same as you, sceptical whether to see this through or to throw in the towel and walk away with your lives. Was the treasure really worth this much to you both?
Another sigh escaped you as you tried not to succumb to exhaustion on Sam's shoulder. “I hate your brother” a small chuckle escaped the both of you.
“Well I hate your best friend” Sam smiled and laid his head on yours, for a few hours you would be safe, safe enough to at least recover from your exhaustion and ruminate on how you ended up in this situation.
