I love that most of the characters don't have good relationships with their parents, for a variety of reasons. It just feels more realistic than all of them having a mom and a dad who are kind and decent. I feel like a lot of them have made relationships with their housemates that are closer to a family relationship than what they have at home. Trudy is probably like a real mom to a lot of them. Plus, there's some other great non-parent familial relationships in a lot of their lives, like Nina with her Gran, KT with her grandpa, and Fabian with his uncle and godfather.
I noticed Fabian is the only student from the original cast whose parents are never mentioned in the series. I was wondering if you have any theories about why they're never mentioned or about his background?
Hi Anon,
Thanks for the question! Fabian’s parents are definitely a mystery. I personally draw my conclusions based off of the family members we do see, Uncle Ade and Jasper. I headcanon that his parents are archeologists who sent him off to boarding school so that they can focus on their work. I think that they would be rather well off, since Fabian is not on scholarship. In my mind Fabian also has a little sister who is at a different boarding school (we love secret siblings on this show). The fact that both Jasper and Uncle Ade have connections to Egypt and the Archeology Scene there leads me to think that the Rutter family digs take place in Egypt.
If they are not archeologists, maybe they are lawyers or museum curators. Whatever the job is I reckon they chose to place it over a relationship with their son and that’s why he is so close with his uncles. They are definitely absentee parents (like many on this show) who choose to advance their own careers instead of spending time with their family. They could be misguided in thinking that they are doing all of this to give Fabian “his best life” but at the end of the day they are wrong. In short Fabian deserves all the love, and I am so here for his father/son relationship with Jasper. - Evie
Although Amelia, Giles, and all Anubis residents are flawless...
To be quite honest, none of them are my FAVORITE character. Like. They're all great and everything. I love them all to death. Even stupid fucking Mara and Nina.
But my favorite character has to be either Sarah or Ade. Because honestly, they're fantastic.
Uncle Ade is just that confused, happy-go-lucky, oblivious family member that everyone has, and he's just perfect.
Sarah is just like...the best. I loved her so much, and I literally sobbed so hard when she died. Like, without Sarah, none of this woulda happened. What if she kicked the bucket earlier? They'd all be toast and their lives would be fucking boring and not Drama TV worthy. And then Sarah's personality. And just. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THE SWEET LITTLE OLD LADY (RIP).
I WANT UNCLE ADE TO SHOW UP THIS SEASON.
I love him, okay?!
That awkward moment when your uncle asks if you and your "fair maiden" friend that's a girl are stepping out yet.
That awkward moment when Trudy tells Fabian she's having dinner with his uncle.
