So, on a whim, I decided to see if I could google a news report of the incident that put my uncle in jail for almost all of my life.

The thing is, the story in the article is a complete fabrication. At least, the listed motive isn't the reason that I've been told.

Right, first thing to know is that there's a certain motorcycle gang out there called the Cloven Hoofs/Hooves. They're based out of Terre Haute, Indiana, where most of the extended family on my dad's side lives. They're not just a hobby group-- they run drugs, to my knowledge, and I can't be sure of what else. I just know I've heard stories about how they aren't afraid to have blood on their hands.

Alright, so my uncle Sean (he prefers to go by his middle name) and his buddy were young and dumb and into drugs. Sean made the mistake of owing the Cloven Hoof/ves an outstanding debt. Coincidentally, his buddy was looking to join up. The initiation rite they gave him? Kill Sean. It sounds like something out of a crime thriller, I know.

Anyway, both of them had a gun. It was one or the other, and Sean shot first. It would've easily been a self-defense case, but he was paranoid becuase of the drugs. So, he dumped the body in a vat of sulfuric acid in the attempt to dissolve it. (I don't even remember why he had a vat of acid; I think it was for some sort of vehicle maintenance.)

I'm not sure how he got caught, but when he tried to run, he called a cab. Big mistake. The police intercepted him with a decoy cab, and once they had him cornered, y'know what they did? They shot him in the fucking neck through the back window of the cab. They didn't give him a chance to surrender and I'm absolutely sure they meant to kill him. That bullet's still in his neck to this day.

Now, I know I still don't have the full story, and I doubt I ever will, but I do know that he got fucked by the state, and hard. He only got out of prison late last year. Now that he's out, he wants to get out of Indiana and across the country as soon as possible, and I don't blame him.

Funny thing is, of all my extended family, he's the only one that I can connect with. Figures, right? He's the mellowest dude I know, even if he's built like a fucking tank, is tattooed head to toe, and has a braid that goes all the way past his ass.
