Random excerpt from Book 1
The breeze was cold and sharp in the mountains of the orc territories, even during the warm seasons. Plenty of wild plant life and animals were easily found here. The orcs may be wild and barbaric but they know how to preserve their lands and maintain a healthy symbiotic relationship with nature. Several weeks have passed since the strange humans have invaded these mountains and began constructing their stronghold. Chieftain Bosk did not like his lands being touched by lesser beings. His race, a strong and proud race, would not stand for such insolence. But, alas, no attempts made to flush these frail looking beings from the mountains have succeeded. As puny as they are they have fought well to defend their stolen land. Chieftain Bosk may not like lesser beings, especially humans, but he could appreciate a worthy adversary. Standing alone on the Ledge of Breakbones, the large and powerful orc leader was admiring his warriors training below near the Caves of Deathrattles. His magnificent army would soon be ready for another attempt at those worthless and disgusting humans. How they could heat their meats over a fire before eating them was beyond his understanding. As far as he was concerned eating meat raw proved your strength. Cooking it only showed the world how weak and pathetic you are. The Warlord leaned over the edge a little more to see into the forest pass used to bring supplies to their camp. It was as busy as it should be at this time of day, early afternoon. Wagons laden with weapons, armor, training devices, and the occasional sacrificial animal were streaming into the smaller caves used for storage. This was a great campsite, used by his tribe for many generations. The caves and ledge were named by his great, great grandfather's human slave before she was slaughtered and eaten by her master and his shaman. It is custom to have your favorite slave name something significant to your cause and then eat them with your most trusted uktahl. An uktahl is the closest word to friend in the orc tongue. The concept of friend is foreign to them. How can you be friends with a being you may have to kill one day? An uktahl is someone an orc can trust as much as an orc can trust someone other than themselves, which isn't very much compared to human standards. - J. Dragonhyde @spoofy-spartan
