Just a little thing I've had on my mind for a while, I'm quite proud of how this turned out. It's been a while since I drew this guy so here he is. This took me a ridiculous amount of time, like 4-5 hours but it was work it, one of my best works yet for sure.

Undermess AU

Note: This AU is still a work in progress, these are the key points but other details might change.

Here’s some info about my AU:

This universe is kinda like a prototype of the original Undertale Universe, but it’s code is really unstable and many glitches cause characters to go “off-script” especially those who are aware of the multiple timelines like Gaster, Sans and Flowey. The cause of the code’s instability is Chara’s death when they fell down which had a huge impact on the rest of the events.

Chara/Frisk:

They never became friends with Asriel, who absorbed their soul to cross the barrier and collect the other 6 needed, but he didn’t want to kill humans to get them and got killed and then turned into flowey.

Other humans fell into the underground but none of them survived the fall because the bed of golden flower was never thik enough. Also the soul of those humans lost most of their color due to Chara’s ghost, that still lingered around the ruins, tried to take control of them, but since they weren’t red souls, they got corrupted and were therefore useless.

When Frisk fell down the bed of golden flower was a lot thicker and they survived and Chara could succefully take control of their soul, but instead of being the only one in control, Frisk and Chara have to share it, this leads to timelines almost never being True Pacifist ones, mostly Neutral or Genocide.

The Dreemurrs:

Toriel and Asgore are still a couple and rule over the Underground, even though they are still grieving over the loss of their only son, Asriel, who died after trying to save his people. Asriel is remembered like a legend and a hero for his actions (note, he is older than the UT Asriel).

Flowey:

He’s still a little asshole. He is the only one aware of the fact that Chara and Frisk are sharing one soul, not even Sans knows that. He’s the most unpredictable character, he goes off-script many times and not always with good intentions.

Alphys and Undyne:

They are a couple from the beginning.

Alphys became the royal scientist after the accident with Gaster and Sans decided to quit his job. She shut down the experiment on Save Points (See “Gaster” section) which Sans carried on on his own and eventually succeeded in completing it. She focused on simpler experiments, like building Mettaton and maintaining the Core operational.

Undyne is the head of the Royal Guard and instead of giving Papyrus cooking lessons, she is actually training him. They do enjoy cooking together afer training though. She’s never killed a human, since they all died immediately after falling down, but this only make her even more adamant to kill one.

Papyrus:

He’s less childish than the original and he’s a really good fighter (unlike his brother) and is quite strong, he prefers strength over strategy. He makes puzzles more for the fun of it rather than to actually kill a human. He trains regularly with Undyne. He always wears the official royal guard armor. He puts up a really hard fight during a Geno run and doesn’t fight at all in the Pacifist run, if he’s alive or if Sans sacrificed himself to save him (glitch result of the code’s instability), he goes to the Judgement Hall instead of Sans and he hits pretty hard.

Sans/Mess:

He became aware of the many timelines after the “Gaster Incident” and sometimes he willingly goes off-script. The biggest instance of that behavior is when he refused to show up at the Judgement Hall during a Genocide Run. Since he was wearing the Link Point (The Save Point he altered in his experiment), he was teleported to the Void, which he is free to leave at will. Even if Gaster tries his best to make Mess hate him, he still cares for him and wants to bring him back. To do so, he goes from timeline to timeline, studying every single possible outcome, analyzing every variable that could have an impact on other events. Sometimes he interferes with the timeline himself to get a specific reaction. To him the lives of other people don’t matter, since he knows a simple Reset would bring them back. After losing his universe he becomes cold and cynical.

Gaster:

Former royal scientist who worked with Alphys and Sans on experiments focused on studying the SAVE power and travelling to other universes. He built the Core, but he didn’t fall in it, the experiment that confined him to the Void was a Save Point linked to other Save Points allowing teleportation from AU to AU, the necklace Sans wears.

In the Void he lived outside of time and witnessed all the possible outcomes of the Undermess Timeline. He acts spiteful and cruel to Sans/Mess, but he’s just forcing himself not to get attached, since most Sanses/Messes decide to commit suicide to get back their universe.

Mettaton/Napstablook:

Both of them have their own robotic bodies and are succeful entertainment robots built by Alphys.

Goggles (my OC):

She used to work along side with Gaster and the others, but the accident wiped away all memories related to her from her and everyone else’s head. She travels the universe looking for clues on who she was.

Most of the other characters don’t change much.
