So... @a-conveniently-shaped-lamp pointed out the lack of Undertale-based October challenges this year so far, and the little goblins in my brain went and ran with it xD
I’d love to see some people join me in this, with art, writing, crafts, or any other kind of content! While the prompts are inspired by a regular playthrough of the game, you are more than welcome to include AUs, pre-game or post-game scenarios etc. - wherever inspiration takes you!
There’s a prompt for each day in October, but if you want to start early or late, go in a different order, or only join for a few days, that’s all perfectly fine! I also added six bonus prompts if you want to go the extra mile, or if a prompt from the main list doesn’t spark inspiration but you still want to complete works for 31 prompts.
To put it briefly: Do whatever you want with this list and have fun!
The tag for the challenge is #undertober2021 (and also feel free to tag @thelibrarbian or @undertober2021 if you want me to see it!)
I am once again attempting to participate in an October challenge! Will I make it past day one this year? Who knows!
I did two sketches today because I couldn’t decide which idea I wanted to do. I’m working on finishing up the first one digitally because I really liked it, but I probably won’t get it done by the end of the day, so you just get these for now!
The prompts are by @thelibrarbian / @undertober2021 !!!
Note: There are NO spoilers for chapter 2 in this fic.

In the Undertober fic:
As a separate work:
Kris's fingers carefully touched the keys of the small piano at the hospital. They didn't press any of them, preferring to simply feel the texture under their digits. You couldn't make out their expression, but they seemed eager to play. They were waiting for something.
A prompt was shown to you. It felt as if time freezed.
(Play the Piano?)
Yes or No.
You chose "Yes". You were so eager as well! You told Kris to press all the keys.
The piano made an unpleasant noise.
Frustration washed over your "mind", if your flow of thoughts could be called such a word. Kris felt it too, making their hands into fists and mumbling something like an apology.
You took them to the receptionist, and made them speak louder. They repeated the apology.
"Hey, it's okay, playing piano is not easy at all, don't sweat it." Kris glared at the monster in the reception, a little offended. They added. "Say, why don't you start with one note at a time instead?"
Kris shrugged. They seemed eager to leave the situation, but undecisive too. You made them look at the receptionist again, and they added.
"You can write down the notes on paper too, maybe having a reminder helps." They handed Kris a sheet of paper.
A choice was presented.
(Take the Paper?)
You eagerly said "Yes" and Kris took it with a nod, adding it to their inventory, and sat by the piano agaim. You checked their items, and used the paper. To your and Kris' surprise, another choice was presented.
(Write on the Paper?) After getting confirmation Kris wrote something. You checked the Paper.
"Let me play piano," it read.
(Play the Piano?)
Yes! Kris pressed their hand against several keys.
Kris shook their head. They wrote again.
"Just one key."
(Play a key on the piano?)
Yes! Kris' index finger pressed F#. You checked the piano and received another choice
(Play a key?)
Yes! This time Kris played a G. Kris shook their head. You did it again. A, A#, B, C, C#, slowly ascending in tone.
(It seems you can’t play this piano.)
But you went to Kris' menu and used the paper again. Kris wrote something and you checked it.
"Can you play "C"?" They drew a keyboard, and labeled every key with a letter.
A new prompt was made.
(Play the C key?)
Yes! Kris played the key they showed you earlier. Pleased, they took the paper again and wrote a series of letters.
D - A - G -D - F# - F# - G
Suddenly, you viewed the keyboard in a different way. It seemed you could make several key choices at once. You made your presence move over the correct notes in the order given.
Kris's guidance was a success! They nodded, contented. It seemed... new ideas were coming to their head.
You used the piece of paper once again. Kris wrote: "Thank you. I think I have an idea."
They kept writing, and once they were done, you read their message.
After joining paths midway through Waterfall, with the commonality connection of witnessing Undyne, Frisk and Monster Kid gazed upon a distant castle, the possible endgame area of the former’s journey.
The latter wasn’t aware, though, that a certain specter remembered of their home, while also gazing upon it.
Did you know this blog has a Frisk? No? Yeah, I don’t blame you, they didn’t even have a proper design until today. But they felt appropriate for today’s @undertober2021 prompt, so, I drew them. Just barely post-fall, in an attempt to avoid overworking myself with backgrounds, lmao. I may or may not continue to draw them over the course of this month, but I do hope to continue with this prompt challenge either way!
[I.D.: A sketch of the fallen human, tumbling down from the stalactite-spiked, vine-tangled hole that leads into the Underground, with cracks like lightning all about them; the picture is upside down, so it looks like they are rising, not falling. End I.D.]
you have passed the precipice between life and death, into life.
