in previous chapters, the idea of the "angel" was incredibly vague, so it was easy to slot the player into. but with the new chapter 5, it seems that it is worshipped as a figure akin to the christian god.

they pray to it to ask for gifts and guidance as one would God, and believe mysterious happenings be miracles as would be done by God.

and something that already threw a wrench into this interpretation in chapter 4, but was easier to gloss over back then because it was the only one,

we do not fit these descriptions. we do not have the power to answer the prayers people send to the angel, and we do not "have" a prophecy as catty says. in fact, ralsei almost exclusively prays to the angel when we're NOT looking, and ralsei clearly knows of our existence.

as a result, i believe the angel is not the player, but rather gaster. (or, at the very least, the figure everyone BELIEVES to be the angel is actually gaster.)

he is the kind of figure who has the power to conceivably fit these roles, and there is strong evidence to support him having written the prophecy.

and while gaster does show up in the margins of the the game, i think as he is now there is not enough for him to be a satisfying reveal for new players unfamiliar with the character of gaster.

but if he was the angel, this would be satisfying for both new players and old - for old players, it's "holy shit gaster real confirmed" and for new players it's "holy shit that guy i was talking to at the beginning was the angel".

i did also mention the idea that he is the figure everyone believes to be the angel, but the player is the true angel. it could be that the angel IS the player, but the prophecy has been misinterpreted - after all, it would be very easy to conflate the mysterious powerful angel mentioned in the prophecy with the mysterious powerful author of the prophecy.

especially with his connections to the number 666, he could easily be a sort of "false prophet" figure. ...well, he wouldn't be a "false" "prophet," because he did in fact write the prophecy in this scenario, but you get what i mean.

alright but what if Kris's staring at the How to Draw Dragons book before shutting the drawer and thinking they know they shouldn't and some things should stay shut is indicative of their feelings for Susie and

so I think what gets looked over here is the "shouldn't". Kris knows they shouldn't open the Krusie door. but it's not couldn't.

their ass isn't suffering because it's unrequited, it's because they think both Noelle and Susie are going to be better off together than with them.

Noelle literally says she doesn't feel like """running away""" with Susie in her life, and Susie says Noelle makes her have the best days she can have.

kris isn't screwed because it's unrequited, it's because they think they've solved Susie and Noelle's problems (which they may feel like they caused) by getting them together and now they aren't needed anymore.
