Greek Underworld River Gods
Wanted to make designs for the underworld rivers.
Introducing: The Five Underworld Rivers
Acheron: River of Pain. All the shittiest people get thrown into his river. It's said the water feels like battery acid, except for some reason, it's freezing cold. The Acheron is a branch of the River Styx, being the deepest part, and the place where Charon's ferry takes the dead into the domain of Hades.
Styx: River of Hatred. Her waters are the exact same shade as obsidian, and can melt anything. Taking a bath in it and surviving will grant you immeasurable strength. Breaking an oath that she oversees?? Not a good decision.
Phlegethon: River of Fire. He likes to be called Phil though. (don't check my sources I don't have any) Drama King get up aside, he's no tyrant. He's actually a healer, keeping people alive, just so they can suffer more. Just like a regular healer!
Lethe: River of Forgetfulness. Lethe is not one to underestimated. Despite her general look of appearing like an incredibly lost Girl Scout, she's ruthless for money. Any scheme she can turn towards her favor will be hijacked. She gives out water from her river which wipes people's memories, a precious resource.
Cocytus: River of Mourning. Cocytus is more of a river nymph than the others. While others too have nymphs residing near their rivers, Cocytus has the best colony, despite the fact that close proximity to his river can make people quite depressed. His daughter Minthe attempted to have an affair with Hades, which didn't go so well when she started claiming she was superior to Hades
Meet em all in my pjo x bsd crossover fic: Wolfhounds & Hellhounds
Underworld Powders Series- Lethe
The River Lethe has a couple connotations, especially in my own practice based on multiple Greek and literary sources. It is primarily the river of forgetfulness. Anyone who touches its waters will start to lose sense of themselves, their history, their life. However, there’s an element that is also peace and sleep as the water of Lethe is associated with Hypnos and his branch of poplar that drips constantly. Hypnos’ cave is also supposed to residue on the banks of Lethe. Because of this association, I focus my Lethe powder more on peace and sleep than “forgetting everything”. I have used it in spells that are meant to help me get over a rough situation or person though- for sure! I use it in my version of sleep sachet’s and anti-nightmare poppets as well.
Lethe Powder:
graveyard dirt (all my powders have a base of graveyard dirt because of my personal craft/style and to tie it to the Underworld where the Rivers resides)
dried chamomile
dried rosemary
dried thyme
pomegranate liquor (another element I add to all my powders as tribute to Hades and Persephone- you can use juice or seeds instead if liquor is not possible)
Also feel free to add other dried flowers that have a pleasant scent to you. I am not a fan of the smell of lavender, though I know many witches like to use it in sleep work. Feel free! The idea with this powder is to create a sense of peace and ease. I also like to use it for anxiety based mental health work, in addition to proper medical care and therapy of course.
I’d love to add elements of a white poplar in tribute to Hypnos and the branch Lethe drips from, but they are unfortunately not easily available in my area (it is not native to the US and is considered an invasive species). There are other populars I could look at, but I feel conflicted on that. So far I’m happy with the powder’s recipe.
Enjoy! This series will be ongoing- keep an eye out for the other four!

Underworld Powders Series- Cocytus
One of the five rivers that flows through Hades, Cocytus/Kokytos is the River of Lamentation (or Wailing). One sip is supposed to have your woes and regrets consume you beyond all else. But the scholars love to tell things dramatically. I see it more as a cleansing river, especially compared to the others. There is something cathartic about a hard cry, something cleansing. It speaks of memories, of longing, of desires.
Cocytus Powder:
graveyard dirt (all my powders have a base of graveyard dirt because of my personal craft/style and to tie it to the Underworld where the Rivers resides)
dried violets (I associate violets with memories and longing)
couple drops of seawater/saltwater (for the tears aspect, obviously, as well as cleansing)- you can also add your own actual tears if you like
dried cloves (for cleansing as well as memories- something about the scent of cloves always has me reminiscing, feel free to use a different spice/herb that gives you that experience)
pomegranate liquor (another element I add to all my powders as tribute to Hades and Persephone- you can use juice or seeds instead if liquor is not possible)
I mostly use this powder for cleansing or for rituals involving memories or reflecting on something. And like I use Lethe for anxiety related mental health work, I use my Cocytus powder for depression related mental health work (disclaimer: in conjunction with proper medical care and therapy, of course).

Underworld Powders Series- Acheron
The River Acheron is the river of pain/woe/suffering. It’s mentioned in most sources (especially Homer and Virgil, as well as Dante) as the one Charon actually ferries new souls across on their way to their destination in the Underworld. The Suda actually states it as a river of healing, and I work with that interpretation a bit in my use of this powder.
It is an actual physical river near the town of Zotiko in northwest Greece (the Epirus region). I would love to eventually get some of its actual waters to work with, but that isn’t possible at this time.
Acheron Powder:
graveyard dirt (all my powders have a base of graveyard dirt because of my personal craft/style and to tie it to the Underworld where the Rivers resides)
ground wormwood or mugwort (be aware of the toxic aspect of these herbs and your health limitations)
dried lilac buds/leaves
dried yarrow buds/leaves
pomegranate liquor (another element I add to all my powders as tribute to Hades and Persephone- you can use juice or seeds instead if liquor is not possible)
blood (just a couple drops- to tie the spirit aspect and for healing from pain)
I use this powder primarily for spirit work (because of the ferrying connotation) and for healing from pain (not in replacement of medical assistance, of course). I find it useful for spells and sachets I do for chronic pain or allergies/colds especially.

Underworld Powders Series- Phlegethon
The River Phlegethon (or Pyriphlegethon) is the river of fire in the Underworld. As such, I find it probably one of the easiest powders I had to figure out how to craft. I stick with only Greek mentions of the river, so it is strictly a river of fire/flame and not of “boiling blood” as the Seventh Circle of Hell, as stated in Dante’s Inferno. I only add blood to two of my Underworld powders, and this is not one of them. However, as I’ve stated before, feel free to edit the ingredients to better reflect what you associate with the River.
Phlegethon Powder:
graveyard dirt (all my powders have a base of graveyard dirt because of my personal craft/style and to tie it to the Underworld where the Rivers resides)
cayenne pepper
cinnamon
red pepper flakes
pomegranate liquor (another element I add to all my powders as tribute to Hades and Persephone- you can use juice or seeds instead if liquor is not possible)
I use this as a power booster to spells and crafting, or fire element powder if needed in rituals and spells. Sometimes I also use it for burning away certain types of illness (like colds or the flu) in healing work.

Project update
Melinoe
so here is the sketch but I'm satisfied with and there's actually takes place in the new hades Fic called wolfen one.
I will be drawing Mel with her cloak on which is essentially the Hound she murdered which had half her soul hecate thought that'd be a great idea to suppress Mel's domains as much as possible yeah that only lasted like 6 years longer than she thought it would.
Those one of her favorite hounds as well even though she purposely killed that Hound originally and then shoved half of Mel's Soul insdie. She did this in order to revive it. She didn't need half of Mel's soul in order to do the task.
Now mel and Hercules both wear animal pelts as cloaks and jackets. It's a little weird wearing essentially her own skin but it's also not her own skin don't think about it too hard it will be explained in the fanfic just not in the first chapter or second chapter
Styx
In some cultures in Africa traditional beauty standards highly praised scarification on the face sometimes it was used for identification sometimes it was just for beauty or a rite of passage between childhood two adulthood.
I believe Styx would have it done for intimidation and for beauty standards the rest of scars on her face that aren't the three lines those were from her time in the first Titan and Olympian War they're supposed to reference bubbles in water.
She also has a bandana on her hair to keep her hair out of her face and her wreath of fire essentially but she's actually supposed to be bubbling water appearing to be fired is what keeps the bandana in place since it's so short it can't be tied in the back.
It was a gift from one of her kids specifically the one that helped chain Prometheus to The Rock but he got stuck on until Hercules came around.
Super giant games said that the Greek gods of worshiped by the Greeks but they're not from Greece comes
Lethe is from Greece, styx is Egyptian like Kronos is and Persephone comes from Mexico specifically the area where the Aztecs's home is from that comes vital later in the story wolfen one.
Aphrodite hails from where the Sumerians are from because originally Aphrodite's cult comes from Mesopotamia because they worshiped her as Ishtar. Hestia sounds Welsh or Gaelic to some extent because that's where her mom's from Rhea is Gaelic going to leave that up to you to decide if she's Irish Scottish or Welsh but she is Gaelic

Lethe
lethe is the wine aunt. She also has the capabilities of violence she's not to do it because why do that when you can give them Amnesia and then dump them in a random location she essentially acted like patroclus's bartender cutting him off when he tried drinking to forget about Achilles she wasn't going to let her favorite gay ship go down like that.
Lethe is is the more relaxed of the five Under World Rivers and she often wears a flower crown of poppies and other flowers that mean remembrance but also death and are often poisonous.
By the way pophams can cause you to have a drug overdose opium poppies are a thing at this time with the gods and such.
She did teach Mel how to make those drugs into bombs in order to knock Kronos out to make the fights easier same with how to make tansy bombs.
She is the leader of the resistance which is essentially what the crossroads are but it's the people that want to knock Olympians off on their High horses.
Yet they also want Kronos to be stopped that does include Prometheus.
everyone just assumes you with she's with Kronos he is not Kronos for some reason assumes that Prometheus is with him
Kronos is very wrong.
Achilles, patroclus, Hercules, Icarus, Orpheus when you do find them eventually, his wife Prometheus as I've previously stated, Mel the five underworld Rivers, several other Titans, several Olympians as well that includes Ares and Dionysus later than discovering Hestia are all part of this very group.
The Crossroads and the other Olympians are completely unaware.
The UW rivers. Acheron (the river of sorrow), Cocytus (lamentation), Flegetonte (fire), Lethe (forgetfulness) and Styx (hate), which borders the upper and lower worlds.
They are very interesting to speculate, but what caught my attention were the colors. A plain sight they are similar to the colors of a lgbt flag. And more, with the circle in the center, that have a shape of a sun.
Or is just me with so much of @operation-out
