despite the fact that she’s spent the better part of this week dreading it, the night turns out to be halfway decent fun. well, actually it turns out to be a hell of a lot of fun. gemma is a pretty spectacular date. they’re similar enough that they don’t lack anything to talk about, both are still a little broken hearted, ready to move on and into a new year boy-drama-free. that’s her new motto. she’s on a boy hiatus. a boy-atus. she doesn’t even really care that there’s no one to kiss when midnight strikes. for once, she’s more than content just dancing until exhaustion hits, hand curled around gemma’s as they take turns spinning one another around the pathetically small dancing space. by the time 11:59 strikes and all attention turns towards the television displaying the ball drop, she’s a mess of rosy cheeks, frizzy hair, and giggles. her arm loops around gemma’s shoulder, head tilting to rest next to hers as she catches her breath. she doesn’t really plan on turning when the seconds tick down, when the room explodes in cheers and confetti and sloshing alcohol. she doesn’t plan for the way her hand moves to tilt the other blonde’s hand in a way that offers her better ease to surge forward and kiss her. but she also swears gemma kisses back. even if it does only last for a few seconds. by the time they part, she’s still grinning, confetti stuck in her hair, cheeks flushed, every bit of her seems to be buzzing with happiness. ❝ happy new year, gem. ❞ she finally manages to murmur, bringing up her glass to clink lightly against her friend’s.
