Fieldwork Assignment #1

This is an iphone X also referred as the iphone 10. Iphones are mobile cellular devices developed by Apple Inc and invented November 3, 2017. The body material of an iphone X consist of glass and stainless steel. The Face ID module for the iPhone X comes from Texas. Various chips for Apple devices are also built in the United States, according to Cook, as is equipment for manufacturing the iPhone. Components manufactured in the U.S. are shipped abroad, with devices assembled by suppliers like Foxconn and Pegatron in China. The factories in China where these phones are manufactured are sweat shops were children work for little pay in poor conditions. Also in many places in China where the phones are being manufactured is riddled with poverty. For phones that are still are in good working conditions, I wouldn’t typically throw it away. If not needed or wanted, I can sell it do someone. Using my phone, I take it everywhere I go. I use it to call and/or send messages and stay connected to people far away.

Historically unequal funding at HBCUs continues to be a persistent civil rights issue.

As the nations and and the world continues to develop, the resources are not always available or accessible to everyone within it. Even in the realms of the United States of America, uneven development is prevalent. Take a look at different institution of higher education in the U.S.

Racism and segregation have long been a part of history in this country. Today, we know something by the name of systematic or institutionalized racism. In simple parts of every day life, inequality can be uncovered (not only dealing with race). One example would include that of public/state HBCUs versus PWIs. HBCUs have historically received less funding from their respective states in comparison to the majority white counterparts. Although the nation has reached new steps to reaching more integration and acceptance, the resources are not accessed by all in an equal manor.

Uneven Development

A major problem among universities in the United States is the unequal funding between the HBCUS and PWI’S. The difference causes lack of opportunities for the university and students due to the lack of funding. A example of this is because of the unequal funding this causes a decrease in enrollment and no resources for students.

This is a example of uneven Development because their is unequal treatment involving Urban universities vs PWI’S . PWI’S have more opportunities and resources than HBCUS and because of unequal distribution of funds HBCU students and future can Suffer greatly.

Uneven Development

I am from a place called Philly. Just like any other city we have our good and bad sections, which definitely represents uneven development. One section of our City, known as North Philly has the most inadequacy regarding houses. They tend to look more ran down or vacant compared to the rest of the city.

This is a perfect example of uneven development because if you visit our City as a tourist or just a person not familiar to the Philadelphia area you will see the difference. Compared to 15th st. (Downtown), Which receives endless construction, new buildings, better sidewalks 24/7, North Philly is a terrible look. Theres rarely any construction until something major happens on a block.

Uneven Development

Uneven Development is unequal distribution of people, resources, and wealth in human geography. Uneven developmental is based upon the global, regional, national, and urban scales. If you go in most areas you would see that some are finer than others. Unfortunately, the amount of resources are scarce even if the areas are right next to each other.

Uneven Development

Uneven development is when resources are not distributed evenly.

When it comes time to choose what type of college you want to attend there is usually one big debate that is usually brought up. The debate that surfaces is Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) vs. Predominantly White Institutions (PWI).

HBCUs are know for there deep rooted since of family culture, in which PWIs lack. While PWI are know for their “supposedly rigorous courses”. HBCUs often are not given the same amount of funding as PWIs are.

According to Dr. Julianne Malveaux, “If the endowments of all 105 HBCUs were added up, they’d still amount to less than 10 percent of Harvard University’s endowment, which at upward of $30 billion is the wealthiest of any college in the world.”

This has created hardships for people who want to attend HBCUs but are not receiving enough funding to do so.

Uneven Development

When comparing the third world countries to ours, we notice the uneven development of their resources to ours. A good percentage of Americans have the luxury of being able to receive food, shelter, whereas it takes others all day just to get sanitary water. Countries like West Africa, China, and Afghanistan face overpopulation which leads to the imbalance of resources. Unlike America, those countries face an uneven distribution of the day to day items that they need.
