I'd say my strength is world building? Like I get so fascinated by details that I will read a 600-page book on one of the oldest restaurants in Madrid to portray it as accurately as possible (you could also argue that's a weakness kssksk)

This soft green, my lovely @ungaroyals, is (to me) the gently gnawing envy that underlines most character motivations in the show. It’s not a neon or leafy or even forest green, it’s not a bright, garish statement of romantic jealousy; simply a grounded, slowly simmering coveting of that which our characters sense they cannot have.

We have Sara’s wishing for the structure and rigidity of the Manor house, see her wanting a clean break in the relationship with Micke. At the beginning, it’s her wish for Felice’s attention, regard and friendship, but we see this develop into a warm deeply intimate pink - a fragrant flower blossoming forth from a deep sage vine.

We have Felice’s envy for Sara’s integrity, Sara’s kindness and competence in the stables, Sara’s relationship with her mamma. Felice wishing she had what her own mamma really wanted to see in her.

We have August’s... everything. Everything of August’s is seeping this sticky, icky envy. Everything he looks at. He sees only the distance between himself and that which he cannot reach, cannot mould, cannot make his own.

We have Simon’s need for more. He craves the opportunities, the privileges, the open doors he sees so many others at that school have access to. At the same time (somehow, the two truths exist at once), we see him envy those that don’t have these dreams. That don’t pine for a bigger pond, a stretched horizon. He covets their contentedness with the here and the now.

And Wilhelm... we have Wilhelm’s silent yearning to fade into nothingness in the eyes of the public. Wilhelm wants to exist with a Linda and without a Malin. We have his envy that Erik gets to return home (and then his envy of anybody in the world with a brother who’s home was enough to keep them safe; keep them here). We also get a heartbeat of his envying Simon’s fortitude, strength, and resilience at the very end; his agency, committment, and solid support system that allows all of this.

The best thing about sage, though? You burn through it, your experience of it cleanses your vision so you can understand (perhaps for the first time) what it is you’re really craving, needing, wanting. And then it’s gone. We’ll see them all clear the way to their happy endings eventually.
