Unhinged
2020
I finally watched Unhinged (2020), and honestly Tom Cooper (the road raging psychopath in the film) can get it. Bro can get it, I need fanfiction on this, I NEED FANFICTION ON THIS.‼️‼️‼️
Bro can get it.
Unhinged (2020) is both a road rage thriller starring Russell Crow and a documentary about what Ford pick-up drivers in southern American cities are like. Devastatingly accurate.
Whump Movie Spotlight:
I know—I know—I said I would try to be objective, but just know I am hesitantly sharing this one and almost didn’t because holy shit is this Flopalina™️. That and, truth be told, I’m a shameless hater by default. Russel Crowe—Maximus Decimus Meridius how I used to dream of you in that gladiator pit and had a picture of you ripped from Entertainment Weekly in your bloody glory taped to my binder like a proper school girl—what the fuck is this?
My main issue (besides the FMC) is how it falls just shy of shock for the sake of shock in some moments, not enough to be grind-house gore; it dips its toes without fully committing, which makes it feel weak and fall flat. However, if you don’t take it seriously and don’t mind some baseless random gratuitous violence, it’s mildly entertaining for a couple of minutes, I guess. “Unhinged” is no masterpiece, maybe worth a half-paying-attention watch as you scroll on your phone if you’re in the mood for an unintentional comedy. Just don’t expect to come away feeling any smarter for it.
If you’re into bad movies and want to laugh at some absurd shit, here ya go, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this dumpster fire of a moive. Three in, and we’re already quickly devolving, the next movie spotlight will be something more worthy of a watch.
Unhinged R 2020 1h 30m
After a confrontation with an unstable man at an intersection, a woman becomes the target of his rage.
Opens with a murder scene (bang-bang!)
Hey Siri, play “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter
Road rage (Crazy douchebag in a pick up truck)
Bad driving (duh)
Lots of sitting in traffic (how suspenseful!)
Hella car accidents (see: Bad driving)
Very avoidable situations that happen anyway because the FMC is dumb as shit
Most relatable character is the child because yeah buddy I’m sick of your mom too
Bystander effect is in FULL effect
Man goes on a killing spree in the middle of a city in—*checks notes*—broad daylight? And has a vendetta that’d put Inigo Montoya to shame.
Incompitent as shit law enforcement
Fair amout of violence, ending fight scene was decently brutal (TW: violence against a child, but he’s okay in the end)
Mild torture scene (victim survives), and character death (stabbing)
No NSFW/sexual scenes
Going to the cinema for the first time since this whole covid thing started! What a concept lol. Going to see “Unhinged” - reminder; just coz things are going semi back to normal doesn’t mean you can do what you want though. Stay safe! Bring a mask everywhere just incase, hand sanitizer and if asthmatic like myself - your inhaler (I only have slight asthma but I carry it with me always) 👍🏻
Scream King - Russell Crowe
