Unit 56 - Evaluation
What was your assignment asking you to do? My assignment was asking me to plan, create, and design a personal 'portfolio' website using Wix.
What method/software did you use to produce you graphic and why? We were required to use Wix to create our website. I designed my website based off of the designs Wix had, and chose the one I thought looked good.
What went right and what went wrong? Because Wix is easy to use, designing the website and making it go live were really simple and worked perfectly, but I had some difficulty with embedding videos on the website, and I was unable to embed any of my videos.
If some thing did go wrong, how did you correct it? I was unable to correct this problem.
If you did it again, would you do it differently? and why? I would pay more attention to the dimentions of my images, to make sure they are roughly the same size, as one or two of the images are drastically different in size to the others on my home page.
What is your overall feelings about how this assignment went? I feel like this assignment could have gone better, but it wasn't too bad.
This is my Wix Site. I need to personalise the content on it a lot more, and i havre added a couple of pages since i last uploaded anything to do with it on this blog.
Evaluation
I went over my site and added some final tweaks to it today. After looking at how it appeared in Chrome, I decided to move all the elements upward, as before you’d have to scroll to see everything. It appears fine in IE and Mozilla now, too. I added in an automatic gallery to the front page and removed the default images, replacing them with some of my older works.
I found on the actual site a problem which would not let me click to my other pages. I quickly realised the dark strip I had across the page was blocking access and sent it to the back - underneath the buttons.
I found using Wix to be quite simple and it produced a professional result. I am fairly pleased with how my site turned out and will refine the portfolio page when I get time. In the future, I’d like to perhaps add a Paypal donation button somewhere in there and my showreel to the front page, replacing the gallery.
I ended up following my original plan for my pages fairly closely, though I still need to create some background images to replace the default ones used. The next thing I will do is create an image of myself for the About page - as instructed.

Digital Communications
There are different ways to communicate digitally, falling into the following categories: IMs (Instant Messengers), file sharing, social media, email and online portfolios. Instant Messengers: Skype, can be used to send messages and make audio or video calls between people. It is becoming a common way to conduct long-distance job interviews also. Whatsapp, Viber, Line, KakaoTalk, Kik and similar messengers are mostly used via mobile, generally as a free alternative to texting.
File Sharing: Dropbox, OneDrive, etc., are sites where you can store files online and give links to others to view them. This can be useful for sharing projects over long distances and cuts the time of getting files to others. Social Media: Facebook This site can be used to create pages for your work/business to gain customers and fans. It can also be used to send messages and keep in touch with others. It is great for networking. Twitter This is a site where you can post short messages. It can be used to post links to recent projects and add updates of how projects are going. So, this site is also good for creating a fanbase. Email:
This is a more direct way used for sending messages with no restriction on length and can be saved in the future. Using a professional email, such as one including the name of your site, leaves a better impression. Online Portfolios: Behance This is a site generally used by professionals to showcase their art and gain viewers. Less formal versions include DeviantArt and Patreon. The first is very informal and commonly used, the latter can be used to gain fans who will give donations for you to continue your work.
A personal site is the best way to show your work and establishes you as a professional.
