evaluation
what was the project: The project was to create a 3D model prop
What did you achieve: i was able to create a skateboard with the trucks and wheels.
what didn't work: differencing objects on the board didn't work.
what worked: the trucks turned out very well along with the deck.
MIKES EVALUATION
Purpose of each task?
The purpose of the preproduction document gave me knowledge as to what 3D modelling is and what is used in 3D modelling.
the purpose of the planning stage was for me to experiment and figure out what i felt comfortable trying to create for the final product.
During building showed me how to create the object that i wanted to create and weekly tutorials allowed me to know what i was doing to create the final piece.
Evaluate research, proposal, planning, and production.
During the research and planning stage I felt comfortable creating anything as practice however these models were still hard to create and i still needed a lot of help making them so during the practise stage I felt that i would need more time to create my final piece.
What went well?
I think creating my final piece went well and it helped me by getting weekly tutorial that helped me throughout creating most of my final idea.
What didn’t work well?
Keeping up with the writing stage of the unit was hard as I took so long creating my model i left it to last to finish up the writing.
What did you learn?
From doing this project i have learnt how to use MAYA and also what is needed to keep in mind when creating a 3D piece such as how many division there are in a shape so that it doesn't get complicated.
How well did you plan your project?
I planned my project by thinking of what i wanted to create before i actually made anything. I started off with a few different ideas but ended up with my favourite however in the writing stage I didn't really acknowledge what was needed to be done so had to do it al last minute.
Developing Ideas!
What I want to make
I wanted to make Thor's hammer, Mjolnir!
Why I want to make it
I wanted to make something that looked challenging, but something that i would also be passionate about and put a lot of effort into. This is why I chose Thor's Hammer Mjolnir, because I am quite a big Marvel fan, and it also looked like it would be fun to try and model it
What led me to making this decision? (i.e. where did I get the idea to model this from)
I got the idea to model this from seeing images and trailers for the Thor film coming out on DVD, and also from a website I had visited prior to this to learn some easy techniques for quickly modelling certain objects in Maya
Did I want to apply materials or use UV mapping?
At first, i wanted to try UV mapping, because even though I was quite new to it, I felt it would give a better looking model at the end of it. However, when I started to try UV mapping, I was not very confident with it, and was unable to correctly align the textures I wanted to the UV map in an image editing program. This led me to experimenting with different materials in maya, doing small test renders of different materials on the Hammer. i then finally decided on the materials I wanted under the "Maya_material_x" presets option, with the exception of the leather stap, where I used a leather texture preset I found under the "Lambert" material
