📂 UNIT File #S-113: “Squeek” Classification: Shreek Hatchling Status: Adopted by Kate Lethbridge-Stewart
During a containment operation in the Welsh Valleys, UNIT operatives discovered an abandoned Shreek nest hidden deep within a network of caverns. Most of the eggs had long since hatched or been destroyed, but one remained. Against all odds, the fragile shell cracked during transport, and out tumbled a tiny, wide-eyed hatchling with claws too big for its body and a voice that squeaked more than it shrieked.
Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, overseeing the mission, was the first to calm the hatchling. Where others saw a dangerous anomaly, Kate saw a frightened creature just trying to survive. Within hours, the hatchling had imprinted on her, refusing to be left in the lab containment unit. Against the objections of several senior officers, Kate signed the papers herself, authorising her to take custody.
Now nicknamed Squeek (after its unusual, high-pitched call), the hatchling has become a fixture at UNIT headquarters. Squeek spends most of its time perched on Kate’s desk, shredding paperwork, startling junior officers, and charming visitors with its oversized grin. He is officially the office mascot, and chaos gremlin extraordinaire.
Though still young, Squeek shows signs of unusual intelligence. It responds to Kate’s voice and has an odd habit of curling up next to her coffee mug.
Either way, UNIT now has a baby Shreek in its ranks, and Kate has a fiercely loyal little companion by her side. ✨
