Unit 2 Part D: manage a public showing of the work

The End Of Year Party will be an open event to the public, anyone can enter the event for free so it is more inclusive. We will be using the space at Fusion Arts as we are based there so have easy access to both the venue and the equipment we will need, the venue and YWMP have all the necessary insurance to put on our arts event including public liability and employment insurance. The venue is on Cowley road, which is a busy and diverse area of Oxford that could potentially attract a lot of people to the event. We will also put public videos of the event during it on social media- like on our Instagram stories, this will help with promo and public sharing.

My responsibilities in relation to public showing are to create a live poetry installation to interact with the audience and give them a space to write down ideas in poetry form in response to everything else that is going on.

I made sure we did as much promotion as possible leading up to this event, I helped load in all the gear and set up the PA system, I taped down cables to avoid trips and slips, I welcomed guest as the arrived so they felt comfortable and safe in our presence. 

During the event there was one issue with antisocial behaviour, someone wondered in off the street very intoxicated, we reported this to Zahra and waiting until the song finished to see if he would move on, luckily he did as we would have had to take action in asking him to leave otherwise.

I think that your role throughout the event was really well done. You communicated what you were wanting to well with us all, making team work easy. You took responsibility for your part of the event on the day and managed it all very well. I loved what you did with the interactive poetry, it was a unique idea that got a lot of people engaged! The post it notes were another great idea and really fitted within the event. Something to develop would be perhaps to have a larger projection, and - if you were feeling able to - ask members of the audience personally if they would like to contribute poetry or what they thought of a piece if you saw them reading it.

Yasmin: Unit 2 - Part D

How have you communicated with others? Think of a few different examples with different people. 

Asking around for feedback on my performance as a leader and wanting to know what I could improve on. 

Introducing myself at the start of the project and sharing my interests within this project 

Talking to the heads of production about the exhibition on where it will take place and on what day. 

What problems have you come across during the project? 

The printer stopped working severals times and needed a reboot because it was constantly flashing.

Say how you have worked with others to solve the problems? 

I worked with the heads of production and asked them to possibly look at the ink cartridge and to check that all the ink levels were okay. 

Record the times when you have asked for help? 

When the printer’s ink stopped working and I didn’t know how to change it. 

Needed assistance on making sure that I had completed the sections for silver arts award and knowing what I needed to work on.

How have you communicated with others? Think of a few different examples with different people.

i have communicated with others via casual conversation, or if Lesley and Linda have asked me to talk to the young people about something specific. Here are a few examples:

Introducing myself at the beginning of the project, telling them my background and what I do.

Talking to young people individually about their invitations to the screening and how many people they’d like to invite. 

I have also communicated with Lesley and Linda multiple times, to arrange shifts and various other tasks I have on the project.

What problems have you come across during the project?

A part from me taking a while to get to grips with things, there haven’t been many issues. The pre production, shoot and edit week all ran very smoothly.

Say how you have worked with others to solve the problems:

Firstly - Me, Lesley and Linda sat down and discussed what needed to be fixed. This gave me a clear idea of what I needed to do, and straight after the meeting, I was planning in my head how I can work on those things. I think that this conversation basically did solve the problem, because I simply needed to hear the honesty which led to me taking the appropriate action.

I asked for help on opening and closing the safe.

i asked for directions to the Bedford House centre, where I was sent to regularly.

I needed help with my timesheet, and got instructions on how to construct it.

(Jay) UNIT 2 PART D: Communication error

HOW HAVE YOU COMMUNICATED WITH OTHERS? THINK OF A FEW DIFFERENT EXAMPLES WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE:

I know I’ve probably said this already, but the main example of me communicating with the rest of the group is when I’ve presented my proposals for potential logo ideas to the rest of the team for evaluation. I did this two to three times at different points in the design process to make sure that everyone had an opportunity to provide input that helped shape the final logo.

WHAT PROBLEMS HAVE YOU COME ACROSS DURING THE PROJECT?:

To be perfectly honest I haven’t really had many straight-up problems, but at points I’ve been unable to decide by myself what would work best for the final logo. 

SAY HOW YOU WORKED WITH OTHERS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS?:

To solve these dilemmas I ended up asking the rest of the team for their input by proposing several options to them and asking them to vote on their overall favorite. I mainly did this because it sorta felt unfair for me to decide something for the rest of the group in case they felt their opinions were being completely ignored.

RECORD THE TIMES WHEN YOU’VE ASKED FOR HELP?:

I asked everyone from the group for their input at least three times during the design process: the first time was when I presented the first three initial sketches, the second time was for when I’d just finished making the rough logo in Photoshop and asked for further suggestions (this was where the black outline originated), and the third time was at the very end when I asked for any further suggestions (all the feedback at this point though was mainly to keep it the same, so I did). These feedback sessions were a great opportunity for me to get feedback about my progress from the rest of the team, and they really helped shape the outcome of this project.

How have you communicated with others?

When collectively brainstorming ideas and communicating with the group leaders and the participants that i am working with when planning the exhibition and the photos that are going to be included. Also, with the rest of the cannibal goldfish members when they gave me feedback for the project and when i took photos of them on each shoot day. 

What problems have you come across during the project?

We had an issue with how many photos we should have with the board as at first we calculated it wrong. Also, the ink in the printer kept running out frequently.  

How have you worked with others to solve problems?

By discussing alternative options for example, when deciding what image to print and also when the image wasn't printing due to ink problems.
