Analysing construction materials and here are some examples. Wood are easy to work with they can be used the set and props there accessible to buy they are cheap in great quantity,on average one sheet of 8 by 4 will cost eight pounds they also can be recycled and reused for later productions. They also can cause splinters and plus you don't have to train to become a carpenter, but ones you have learnt these skills and The how to use the machinery and tools such as tenner saw,jig saw, sanding disks, circular saw, chisels, bench saw, planes, pillar drills, belt saw and lathe machines.
Metal is stronger and heavier than, but but it is more durable and is easier to join to get up by welding on to that of using wood joints which take more time even. Though welding is more dangerous it is much like using a glue gun, only producing a blinding light though. Where as when making a frame structure it would take longer to make the wood joints then just simply using metal so it's just cut grind of the sharp edges and welded to stop people getting cut then welded this mean the joins are stronger as well. With The application of using metal it is stronger which means it can withstand more weight what means actors can be more safe,
Set construction for animal farm unit 8 unit 72
Set construction for Animal farm The first thing we started was with the ground plan, which is a full size blueprint taped out on the stage floor. Reasons we do this is so the actors can get used to the layout of the stage and also we can be accurate when we are putting up the decking. because the actors had left all their props that they came and clear the auditorium, We got the tools including the transformer circular saw for cutting metal and Podgers. Next we brought in 8ft by 4ft pieces of light decks and metal pole measuring at 7ft and 1.5m these poles are going to be used as the legs for the light decking.
Next thing we did was put A long strip of metal in front of the decks and screwed it down to the floor, then we bolted another strip of metal this is so we can Weld uprights to make the structure, this way we can screw down the 8 x 4 sheets of wood to make it more stable, this way the structure is screwed to the ground and bolted to the deck.
Then with the sheets of 8ft by 4ft wood we cut to size so they could make the doorways and screwed them to the right strips of metal on the structure,we cut the the sheets of wood by using the portable circular saw and rested the sheets of wood on the trucks and the trucks acted as a work bench. Also for the roof we had to cut the sheets of wood to create a sloped roof, this way the roof looks like a barn. Then we made the doors by measuring the doorway so they will be fit to size. and how we made the door frames by cutting the metal strips to size to fit frame and then Cooper welded them together to make a door frame. we welded the hinges to the door frame. after this small strips of wood were screwed to the door frame to create a slanted door, after this we made the decking more like a solid piece of wood we did this by stapling strips of Wood on to the decks to cover metal work..
How to avoid these hazards for the Alice set.
Make the actors aware of all the hazards.
Hand rails.
Hazard tape.
White tape to show change in level.
Make actors aware of weight restrictions on each platform.
Cut or cover sharps edges.
Apply foam to padding to low (head level) bars and platforms to ensure people of hitting their heads.
Things to look out for during risk assessment for alice set.
Do the actors know how many people are allowed on each piece of set?
Can actors identify hazards, drops and changes of level?
Is the set secure to stand on or lean over?
Are there any raised surfaces? Are there any sharp edges on the set? Are actors aware of these obstacles?
construction overall process:
our process started with waiting for the the model box to be completed and confirmed by the directors then we looked at a floor plan for it and stated to work out the rake i.e what length legs we would need at each joint and how many in total. then we built one side of it in the workshop to see if it sloped from 3ft to 6ft and if it was a safe angle for actors to walk on.then we looked at how many triangular steps we would need up to the stage on either side and two triangular panels to screw into the decking in between the side structures and the rake. then we marked out and cut the sides and tops before gluing and brad gunning them together.after that we moved the side structures in and got the decking in and cut out more legs for everything and moving it all into place before adding blacks and red curtains to cover the metal hand rails on the decking.afterwards we started building the metal and wood frames for the gauze and covering it on them by stapling it to the wood.then we began helping the design team mark chalk lines on the gauze to see where the boxes would go to make it symmetrical and following the designs on the model.once those were all marked out we began painting them with Rosco paints (black, magenta, yellow ochre) then Alan and Alec would dry brush some decorative pillars and flowers to add more depth we also helped pain two of the gauze bits that just hang down in the middle of the stage.after this was done we worked on the period props.then finally we put the last drape up and started the show.
construction c3,c4:
the most scale work we did was looking at the set plan and figuring out the sizes of the triangular steps and how many legs were needed especially on the rake were we had to figure out how to make it fit and slope up properly.we also spent a lot of time using the scale ruler to mark up the gauze with chalk lines showing where the boxes and decorative pieces would be and this is also where we did a lot of independent work marking them up and measuring by ourselves then starting to paint then painting for the next few days.independent work we did for the rest of the set was things such as myself and Taylor marked out all the sets of legs for the rake ready to be cut, fetched poles from the containers,i used the pillar drill for the dance show and i helped other screw in the steps on the stairs for the dance show and screw in the small black steps for oh what a lovely war.
The cross arch me Taylor and Harry S painted by ourselves and me and Sam C marked it out ourselves we marked out according to the scale model and used a scale ruler using the 1:1 or 1:25 scale but we released the actual frame and gauze were bigger so we had to mark it out symmetrically but to the original design. then when we painted it we used black Rosco to do the outlines then used yellow ochre for the gold and red magenta Rosco paint for the rest, we used special brushes that had a slant meaning you had to paint it a certain way always the smaller point first to get a better line and more control over it,if there were spots of paint where you couldn't see the tiny holes you had to blow on it otherwise it would have dried into a clump then Alan dry brushed some of the gold to give it more depth.however myself and Sam only marked out the squares not the patterns.
