Ever Made Your Way As Far into the Interior as Coruscant?
STAR WARS EPISODE II: Attack of the Clones 00:51:29
The definition of the Interior as its own region comes from the 2019 Galactic Explorer's Guide which has a nice simplified map showing the regions.
I actually prefer this way of showing areas of the galaxy, based off of a geometric circular grid rather than the "wobbly" borders on other maps.
If we compare the borders of the Interior to the maps we have from the Essential Atlas, the Interior could be further broken into the Negs, the Northern Dependencies, the Southern Core, and the edge of the Hyperspace Anomalies we now know as the Red Honeycomb Zone.
«At the edge of the known galaxy, where Palpatine’s holo had shown only the white stars of the Unknown Regions, an entirely new area had been colored in. A huge new area. (...) Luke gazed at the holo, listening to the distant hum of the spiral slideway, the terrible implications of those gently glowing lights tumbling over each other in his mind. There had to be the equivalent of two hundred fifty sectors there? Nearly thirty times the Empire’s current size.»
Vision of the Future, Timothy Zahn, 1998
Luke considering the size of the Empire of the Hand's territory.
250 sectors is insane! That's the equivalent of a quarter of the Galactic Empire's territory at its peak. It also translates in the whole northern part of the Unknown Regions down to the borders of the Ascendancy.
It also means that, had he been succesfull in overthrowing the New Republic, Thrawn would have had control over near 3/4 of the Galaxy.
It would have been one of the largest empires in the history of Star Wars... but it also would have been very short lived. Thrawn's never been much of a politician even in Legends. His leadership is respect-based and I'm afraid the inevitable internal power struggle which would flare up among imperials would have Thrawn toppled. His fate would not be much different from Pellaeon's... not to mention Thrawn also had a score to settle with the Ascendancy.

Final chapter of the three-part crossover with my Rebel!Thrawn AU is up! I am taking prompts for what to put these poor fools through next before hitting the endgame XD
Summary: The situation comes to a head as Piett and the Executor team become embroiled in Thrawn's mission…
Enjoy!

"HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025" 🎇🎆🎉 😀
@oodlesofd00dles I chose a bit angsty 😈 Although, it's pretty chill right after this...for Zena and Revan that is. Atton's a little mad Revan destroyed his lightsaber mere moments before this.
Also this moment has been sitting in my mind forever, and I finally decided to illustrate it now that I have colors on my side :3 It's almost exactly like I envisioned it. Art is cool!!
After reading Treason again I just wanna say that I'm convinced Thrawn was buzzing with joy when Ezra decided to yeet both of them into the Unknown Regions.
