Mizu’s gender is revenge
rewatching blue eye samurai and I’ve seen lots of discourse on Mizu’s gender. On the surface they’re just mulan, a girl pretending to be a man for convenience. I also love the idea of Mizu as a trans man because it explains a lot of private moments they had without having to conform in the face of danger.. However have we considered Mizus gender is literally just revenge LMAO. They take the form of whatever gender is most convenient to achieve their goals. (Yes i’m getting at the idea that they’re genderfluid. Agender is also a good option here) because it makes more sense than any other hc i’ve seen. They have close intimate ties to both femininity and masculinity, adhering to either one when it benefits them, and of course that’s aided by the softer basis of being afab. The show features all kinds of archetypes and people including queer folks of the time period, so I really don’t think this is that much of a reach!! The fact that mizu as a character literally does not care how they’re perceived as long as they’re a step closer to reaching the main goal is such a dynamic, complex, and badass way of developing a gnc character. gender = revenge. next question.
