What luck, what coincidence, that this could occur at such a time! He didn’t need to check his phone- he made a habit of watching when the eclipse came about, the people who dropped in, where they went. Any potential interesting contestants or allies or just someone that looked like a fun time.

But this was not a face he had expected to see here, this was not a face he had expected to see ever again.

Just the very chances of it seemed . . . impossible and yet there she was. His trusty lab assistant- his doctor. One of the few humans who had earned his attention. One of his few projects that was cut short- oh the monster he would’ve created her into. The people he would’ve killed, the-

Well, it doesn’t particularly matter now. Not in this city. The point was his favorite little toy had just arrived again and she deserved a proper greeting from the local archangel.

It only takes him moments to cover the distance- the nondescript man is already handing her a pamphlet, ready to offer her a car . . . Unfortunately for him . . . Belial lands down right next to the good doctor and the driver. It only takes one buffet of his wings and the painfully average man is sent flying over the railings, some yells echoing outwards as he goes.

And then in an instant his wings are gone and he’s giving a quick bow to the unsuspecting doctor.

“Hello doctor- don’t worry I give far better rides than he does.” He rises up slowly, dramatically as he always does. “Bet you’re surprised to see me.”

it was almost like a miracle that he overheard someone talking rather loudly about being a doctor. the woman was speaking to (mostly) uninterested passersby, but Lee took a moment to listen. he was in great need of one, after all. the wound on his leg refused to heal completely, as the bullet was still somewhere in his leg. despite trying to dig it out himself, it remained lodged firmly in there and was giving him nothing but troubles when he tried to climb or even just walk.

listening to her really made him miss Feng. he missed crashing on her couch, missed her meals (even if they were frozen), missed the way she would tease him for this and that.

huh. what a funny feeling he has in his chest.

“You’re a doctor, right?” Lee finally approaches her, sticking his hands in the front pocket of his hoodie. “Are you one that can do surgery? If so, I’d like to ask a favor. I mean, I’ll pay you, of course.”

as grand as the city was, to find good music was as easy as trying to pluck a needle from a haystack, it seemed. at least beyond the doors of the theatres, wonderful music and talent was almost unheard of, as if the rest of the island was a bland, empty canvas lacking the paint to appear beautiful. whilst it had been almost unheard of for the phantom to leave his opera house behind for the world beyond, after his summoning he had ventured further and further into the world, thus for this dear summoning term, he was bound to journey further. out and up into the daylight, to wander about with the rest of them, the humans he had never felt so far from in all his life. 

wandering a little further away from his home, he came to a place abundant with pink-shaded trees, surprising for how late in the year it was. humming as he went, he found it was an incredibly peaceful and beautiful place, undeserving of the tainting visage that he most certainly was. such a shame, that such a wonderful scene would then be poisoned by his ugly form, by the monster he was... but he soon learned that he was not alone there. a soft sing-song came from one of the benches across the yard, the voice belonging to a young women, it seemed. such a sweet tune she sang, quite fitting for the beauty which surrounded her. why, he had not gone searching for music, and yet it still found its way to him. 

“ such soft words, from such delicate lips... “ he approached her in song, bowing his head some before angling the masked side of his face away from her, as if it would soil her beauty somehow. “ mademoiselle, forgive me... but your voice is as sweet as an embrace, what song is it that you sing? “

“I’d heard you were a doctor...but are you a good one?”

He had to think about his own health, after all. Despite his increase in healing potential because of the Pit, he had to admit that even he needed patching up once in a while. If he didn’t staunch profuse bleeding he very well could have lost too much blood, after all. And he was looking a little rough then and there so that was maybe part of the reason he was doing this in the first place.

The university seemed a good of place as any to learn things about this world- after all the libraries were yielding mixed results and the people were . . . 

Not very helpful.

A place of learning is the next obvious step then- surely there had to be professors or something akin to that around here. Really anything would do at this point. She still hadn’t even found that mysterious city hall people mentioned.

Oh, thank goodness- a human or well . . . Someone that was very human-like at least. The lab coat and tied back hair is familiar to the enforcer. She had worked with many in R&D given her unique requests. Hopefully she would be able to gleam something from her.

“Excuse me, are you perhaps a professor here- maybe some type of lab assistant?” She gives a slow bow to the other. “My name is Ba’al, I have a few questions about this establishment.”

She couldn’t remember the last time she had been to a library, always preferring instead to listen to podcasts if the urge to hear a story of sorts ever arose which was, unfortunately, a rare occurrence in and of itself. Unlike some of the other Vocaloids Rin didn’t really understand the apparent enjoyment of it. If there was ever anything that she wanted to know all she needed to do was have it downloaded to her memory bank (with permission from her creators) or the simple act of googling it was always an option as well. They were the future after all-- literally. 

But boredom has led her this way regardless ; fingers skimming along the spines of the books spread out on the shelves before her. Brows crinkle at each title she observes before a selection is finally made: some manga with a plethora of cute characters on the cover. Book now in hand the blonde makes her way upfront to the tables and chairs that are littered all around and is surprised to see that another person is seated at one of the longer tables, multiple books flipped open and spread all around. It had been seemingly empty when she first arrived. 

Although she had initially planned to curl up on one of the old leather recliners her curiosity gets the best of her and soon the android is setting her own book down onto the tabletop, trying to appear as casual as possible as she slides into the empty seat directly across from the other. Intending to only steal a tiny glance at what the other was focusing on Rin’s eyes suddenly widen, mouth falling open into a comical gawk. Suddenly embarrassed by her silly little ‘picture book’ she quickly shoves the manga volume off to the side and splays her palms against the table loudly, chair screeching as she rises from it to get a better view of the numbers, figures and letters that are printed across all of the pages. It practically looks like it’s in an entirely different language, completely undecipherable to the android.

“What is that all about?!”

“Are you some sort of math professor or something...?”

Perhaps he had wanted to hear it. The pleas, the begging... the cry for some branch of an apology. The proof that he was right and that she had been the traitor, that she was the monster of their morbid tale. Perhaps he expected it. Even when they had last met, he had hung upon her words with his fist gripping his blade. Hoping to hear it. The apology he knew he deserved. 

But it never came. She was defiant. It was a good trait of hers, when it wasn’t angled towards him. Oh, how it cut. Like a hot knife through a plate of butter, it melted away at him and left him weak. She was a weakness. She is weakness. She is weak. Weak. Weak. 

The night greeted Adam like an old friend. Stars splattered against the dark canvas above like an open book, but his head remained down. Shadows were an aid here, were so incredibly useful. Regardless of how Roman was due to spend these nights, Adam was following a trail of his own. It was his role now to secure a place for the White Fang here. Recruitment? Perhaps. Domination? Absolutely. Fear is a greater tool than a gun sometimes. But a sword does feel so good within the grip, doesn’t it? 

“What are you— argh!”

One. The blood of a human seems to stain that much more obnoxiously.

“Wait...no! No! Stop! Please!”

Two. Even when they beg, it’s pathetic. He abandoned the bodies for some citizen to wander upon, the emblem of the White Fang left to sit amongst the blood-stained clothes of the dead.

Adam made his way behind the back of the apartment complex to instead lean against the cold wall of an empty ally. It was late enough that even the streetlamps were out of service, the buzzing of the electricity the only thing that remained once the lights had all vanished. There. He froze. The voice. It caught upon the wind and he angled his head to better hear it. Was it... no. His mind was desperate to mock him and he grunted in frustration. Had he not been so intent on remaining hidden, he might have slammed his fist against the hard brick.

No. It came again. It sounded so much like her, it spurred him on to run and to keep running, up until he reached— 

The bright light of the launderette was near blinding in the late hour darkness. Adam kept himself pressed to the ally, allowing the shadows to continue to wash over him. Despite the distance, he could make out a figure. White coat. Black boots. Dark hair... Madness spiked within him but he remained quiet, watching her. There was no mistaking that voice... and she was all alone too. None of those little friends of hers to distract them from her much deserved execution. 

It was almost too good to be true.
