The creative energy was off the graph at the Outpost today. @johnny_irion and @timbluhm jammed some tunes. Why? @grant.ch of @blackwing had stopped by a year ago and we all became instant friends. Hearing that The Doors and Eagles jammed in the shop back in the day. (Mama Cass / Mona’s and Papa’s among others lived next door a couple decades ago and used the Outpost for lots of jam sessions) Grant is part of Blackwing pencils and motived to bring a couple of his favorite musicians by for a jam session now. Why still? Johnny Irion is John Steinbeck’s great nephew and John. (Yes that one) used Blackwing pencils to write some of those classic novels we read. Blackwing is keeping the creative energy alive and today was part of it. We are so stoked to be immersed in the music scene and part of today. These rock piles are called cairns. We looked it up. We also had a nice ride today. We did the shop loop and enjoyed it a lot. Great weather combined with amazing trail conditions. We stopped for the cairn rock piles today. Some think they are aesthetically appealing while others think they are not. We are really sure why people make these rock piles. Sometimes they are trail markers. Jury is out. Kinda fun no matter what. Rough seas. If you were 12 years old and camping in a fire lookout tower during a really bad rain and wind storm, would you pretend you are on a boat navigating rough seas? Or is that what you do when you are an adult? It’s nice to have a friend who is an accomplished actor on adventures. UnPredicting everything!!! Fire Sale!!! Out of character, we are open tomorrow (Wednesday) because frankly we need to sell some stuff. The reality of being closed all last week due to the fires and mandatory evacuation left a bit of a dent in the old shop checkbook. We want to sell a few things to maybe make back a few of those dollars. So, I we thought we would be open for business instead of. camping. Also in the spirit of a famous week for shopping we thought it would be a good idea to get on that bandwagon. So, here we go....It is probably no surprise to anyone who follows us that we can be a bit clumsy in the “sale” department. Giving it a try, we created few “Gift with purchase” packages. We filled some @roguejourneymen bags with @silca_velo tools and other things like a @buddypegs book. ( @opinelofficiel and @spurcycle bells are also in the mix). Stop in for a gift package. $49 or $100 bags and the tools, book, bell or knife comes along at no cost. Save like $75 on some packages. Each package is a little different. We are also selling all the bikes in stock at 10-35% off. We really want to make a couple new sales. Also, we want some demo bikes to find a home. Finally, some @roguejourneymen prototypes are on sale and other specials. This will go on for a few days unless we get bored and bummed because nobody bought anything. We moved to Topanga from Hollywood about 10 years ago and one of the first people through the door was our Topanga neighbor @krismathur - since that visit we have enjoyed countless rides with Kris, countless camping trips racing single speeds, countless Saturday rides and countless conversations in the rocking chairs. It’s still going strong. It was Kris a couple months ago who encouraged us to dust off our kits and head down to Temecula for this weekend’s race. Thanks buddy for that little kick.
