He grins sheepishly. “When I went home that night, I told my parents that I was madly in love with this brave and beautiful woman who saved my life.” Oh my God. My heart’s beating in my throat. “Of course they convinced me that I was completely overwhelmed and that I needed to get some rest.” “I’m sure they were right,” I mumble. “I thought so too, honestly.” He swallows hard. “But then you had to go and be not just brave and beautiful but also humble, and funny, and honest. And I couldn’t stop thinking about what it’d be like to be with you… So I need you to tell me what I need to do for you to give me that chance.” His jaw tenses as he locks eyes with me. “Please.”

Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania: population two thousand outside of tourist season. And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed attempt at a relationship, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has saved: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling. Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time. But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. What begins as an immediate friendship quickly turns into something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something that Catherine is afraid to trust. Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine…before the spark fades?
REVIEW
Cathrine Wright has not had an easy life. Her teenage years and most of her adult life have been haunted by scandals, rumours and failed relationships. Throughout the book we learn how those events in her life turned her into a much different person than she used to be. A serious accident one night leads to Cathrine’s life changing forever.
Single mothers play a huge part in my life. My mom was a single mother of three and my aunt is a single mother of one. But as I was reading this book, Cath kept giving me deja vu because it was like reading a book about my aunt. It was one of the many reasons I was not able to put this book down until i finished it.
It’s hard not to not to love a book that main message is that your past does not define who you are or can be. Until it Fades shows all readers the positives that could happen when you allow yourself to move on from the past. The story flowed well and the little twists and turns kept me on my toes for the last half of the book. The characters, even the secondary ones, play such an important part in Cath’s life and the story itself. I would 100% definitely recommend this book to all my fellow romance readers.
Lastly, as someone who is born and raised in Toronto but a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, what K.A Tucker wrote about the Toronto Maple Leafs had me laughing so hard. Nice try, K.A. but we know that won’t happen in this life time. BONUS: Chapters is having a 50% off sale on all K.A’s books! Review: Until it Fades by K. A. Tucker.
Summary:
My review:
Living in a small town can be all about the sense of community, of belonging and knowing everyone. For Catherine Wright, however, that isn’t a good thing. Her past haunts her everywhere she goes and whenever she turns around, she feels like everything is judging her for something that happened in her past.
Catherine is just trying to raise her little girl and keep her head down when on her way back home from a failed date, she saves a man’s life. What she wasn’t expecting was for him to be the famous hockey player Brett Madden who is determined to be a part of her life.
Because of everything Catherine went through, she tries her best to keep herself out of the spotlight, which means she will try her best to push Brett away, even if her heart seems to stop every time he’s near her.
Until it Fades is a sweet love story about facing your fears, coming to terms with your past and giving yourself a second chance to be happy.
The story is well written, the characters real and I couldn’t have been happier with how things played out. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a heartwarming and swoon-worthy book.
