Ian RT Colless' Element Showing - Australia
First Stage Development Showing - AUSTRALIA
Presented by PP&VA & Untitled|Collective
This First Stage Development of 'Element' has taken place between April and May 2014; seeing Ian RT Colless create the initial movement vocabulary. There were two residence periods in this First Stage of Development: first at NAISDA Dance College and second, supported through Penrith Performing & Visual Arts (PP&VA) Q Lab at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Center. This experimental period has acted as a laboratory for ‘Element’ later planned to become a multi-media/cross-disciplinary work.
The Collective’s future objective for ‘Element’ is to create a 30-minute modern Indigenous dance/media experiment. The goal of this work is to foster new connections that involve five dancers, media, cello, piano, and electronics. It will be structured in four modular movements, representing: Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind. All these elements are strong universal characteristics of nature evident in varied ethnic-cultural backgrounds. These elements uniquely coalesce to form a new work and structure that has the influence to translate it’s storytelling to wide-ranging audiences of mixed demographics.
The Second Stage of the Development Untitled|Collective are seeking funds for, will see the score developed by the Collective's NYC based composer Harry Stafylakis then creating the choreographic structure of the work with five dancers. This stage of development will start after Untitled|Collective discover funds to take this work into it's future stages of creation.
