Unvanquished 0.55

"Unvanquished," 2007/2012, acrylic and clay letters on panel.
___ My past "Un | Useful" series remains as one of my favorites and still holds future possibilities. This painting was revised in 2012. "UnVanquished" is part of four and one of many from my 2007 exhibit that include:
Unashamed, Uncontrollable, Unbroken, Unequivocal, Unbeliever, Unleashed, Unfettered, Untainted, Unafraid, and Undeceived.
This series posed a way of working on concepts with words and images that I continue to think about now. I don't possess any of these paintings anymore, but I continue to see them as a group together. My unfinished series, "I ate my words," is a project that I will eventually explore and has some relation to this one through the word/image use. I also think that I should revisit the Un | Useful series again in a larger scale and broaden the purpose.

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

ma pham g.yu mtsho - Unvanquished Turquoise Lake, another name of Manasarovar [RY]
ma pham g.yu mtsho - Lake Manasarovar. At 4600 meters, and with 320 square kilometers, Lake Manasarovar is the highest large body of fresh water in the world. Its other names are the Unvanquished Turquoise Lake (ma pham g.yu mtsho), Anavatapta, the Ever-cool Lake (mtsho ma dros pa), and the Divine Lotus Lake (padma lha mtsho). It is called the Unvanquished Lake because when one examines all the other great lakes of Tibet to see if they possess the eight qualities of perfect water (chu yan lag brgyad ldan) they are faulty in some respect. It is called Turquoise Lake because its limpid waters resemble a turquoise mandala. It is given the name Ever- cool Lake because it is the palace of the naga king Anavatapta, "Who Never Warms Up." It is called Divine Lotus Lake because it resembles a fully opened eight-petaled lotus. [MR] [RY]
"Read about cake," I said.
"Very well. What kind of cake?" Only she didn't need to say that because Ringo was already answering that before she spoke:
"Coconut cake, Granny." He said coconut cake every time because we never had been able to decide whether Ringo had ever tasted coconut cake or not. We had had some that Christmas before it started and Ringo had tried to remember whether they had had any of it in the kitchen or not, but he couldn't remember. Now and then I used to try to help him decide, get him to tell me how it tasted and what it looked like and sometimes he would almost decide to risk it before he would change his mind. Because he said that he would rather just maybe have tasted coconut cake without remembering it than to know for certain he had not; that if he were to describe the wrong kind of cake, he would never taste coconut cake as long as he lived. Unvanquished development news
I have to apologize for the recent lack in FG updates, but at least *I* have a good excuse as first my Internet broke down, and now I am preparing to relocate to another continent (extra points for guessing which in the comments ;) ). Anyways... it seems like there is now a "winner" out of the total breakdown and split-up of the efforts to revitalize Tremulous earlier this year. I will not go into details, but I can assure you it was not pretty, and I decided to skip any news coverage on it until the dust had settled. I hope this is now the case, and for now it seems only one of the projects really shows some progress... that is unless the other is not working in stealth mode. Lets see... at least Unvanquished is actually releasing alphas of their game, so I am leaning toward them when it comes to which will actually become a nice, playable game soon. You can follow development quite well on one of the team-member's blog here. In the most recent post, some nice screenshots surfaced, and both their new modeling, GUI and animation work seems quite nice too.
