With Jose T. Joya Gallery Curator and UP Cebu Asst. Professor of Fine Arts Jay Jore. The Joya Gallery is a student-run gallery under the Fine Arts program within the College of Communication, Art, and Design at UP Cebu. Since its inauguration in 2016, the gallery has been dedicated to serving as a platform for fostering collaboration and synergy between the local community of talented artists, the academic sphere, and the general public.

One of the remarkable initiatives of the Jose T. Joya Gallery is the establishment of its very own Fabrication Laboratory, also referred to as FABLAB. This endeavor results from a partnership between UP Cebu and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The FABLAB is specifically designed to cater to the needs of various target beneficiaries, including Micro, Small, & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), start-ups, makers, students, and other individuals in the creative disciplines.

The primary objective of the FABLAB is to provide these beneficiaries with unparalleled access to cutting-edge computer-based and digital design and manufacturing methods. Through advanced technologies and comprehensive training programs, the FABLAB empowers individuals to explore and harness the potential uses of a wide range of digital machinery. By equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, FABLAB enables them to transform their innovative ideas into tangible creations.

The Joya Gallery has become a center of creativity and innovation. Its strategic location in Lahug, near universities, government agencies, hotels, and shopping malls, makes it easily accessible and highly visible to students, teachers, artists and visitors. As a result, the gallery attracts a diverse range of individuals who are passionate about art, culture, and creativity.

Unang Siglo

Karong tuiga, ang University of the Philippines Cebu magsaulog sa gatosay nga kalamposan ug serbisyo. Giawhag ang tanan nga moapil sa malipayong pagsaulog sulod sa buwan sa Abril hangtod Mayo.

Kanhiay ubos sa administrasyon sa pagdumala sa UP Visayas, kauban ang laing campus nga ginganganlang UP Miag-ao, UP Ilo-ilo, ug UP Tacloban, giaprubahan sa University of the Philippines Cebu Board of Regents ang status sa UP Cebu isip usa ka autonomous unit sa 2010.

Gikuyogan sa determinasyon ug kalig-on sa administrasyon, faculty ug staff niadtong 2016, ang UP Cebu, usa na ka constituent university sa tibuok UP System.

Sa sulod sa usa ka siglo, ang UP Cebu mipatin-aw sa ilang pangandoy isip usa sa mga tunghaan nga mopatigbabaw ang kamaayo sa edukasyon. Kini mao ang panlantaw sa UP Cebu nga mamahimong usa sa mga tunghaan nga mangulo sa panukiduki, serbisyo publiko, graduate ug global university.

Ug labaw sa tanan, sa pagkahimong constituent university, mas gipalig-on pa ang presensya  sa UP Cebu isip usa ka national university sa Central Visayas.

Matod pa ni Atty. Liza Corro, Chancellor sa UP Cebu nga, “Ang pag-alagad isip pinaka-unang Chancellor usa ka kadungganan ug responsibilidad ug ako mosaad nga kinasing-kasing ko moalagad sa katawhan.”

Ang pagsaulog sa ika-100 nga tuig sa UP Cebu gikuyogan og nagalain-laing mga kalihokan sa sulod ug gawas sa tunghaan:

Sa pagsugod sa selebrasyon, dunay motorcade niadtong April 4 gikan sa UP Cebu paingon sa UP SRP, ug gisundan kini ug tree planting kauban atong partner sa BINHI, usa ka proyekto sa Energy Development Corporation. Gitambongan ang tree planting sa mga faculty, staff, mga estudyante, mga alumni ug mga retirees.

Sa April 5, dunay misa nga saulogon sa Administration Building ug halad nga ulohan sa mga representatives sa kada college, sa high school, mga staff, retirees, ug ang alumni. Ang mosaulog sa misa usa ka UP Cebu graduate, Father Sonny Cotiamco.

Sa April 13, dunay gischedule nga pagpasalida sa mga lilas. Usa ka job fair sab ang ipahigayon sa April 14. Sa April 22-28, TANYAG, ang tinuig nga pagsundayag sa College of Communication, Art, and Design ipahigayon sa Robinsons Galleria Cebu. Duna pud presentasyon sa panuki-duki sa mga estudyante sa April 25.

Sa April 27, ilunsad pud ang mga DOST Funded Facilities (Center for Environmental Informatics in Central Visayas; Regional Center for Molecular Diagnostics Research Center. Fire Check: Urban Fire Hazard Mapping and Fire Spread Modeling; Cybersecurity Research and Extension Center; and Students’ Innovation, Incubation for Technologies and Commercialization Hub (STiiTCH) sa Performing Arts Hall sa UP Cebu.

Sa May 2, dunay Open House sa tanang Service Shared Faciltiies: Creative Digital Media Production Center; Fabrication Laboratory; Go Negosyo Center and Co-working Space; Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO); Technology Business Incubation (TBI); ug ang UP Store. Gi awhag sab ang tanan nga moadto sa Sentenaryo, usa ka pagsundayag sa usa ka gatos nga alampat sa UP Cebu Fine Arts alumni, faculty, ug mga bisita sa Jose T. Joya Gallery.

Sa May 3, mao ang kulminasyon sa Centennial Celebration. Dunay programa sa pag abri sa Gratitude Wall, oblation ug UP Presidents’ Markers, pagganti sa Jingle and Centennial Song Writing, pagganti sa Centennial Gawad Chancellor, ug pagkanta sa UP Naming Mahal.

Gera nagmadaugon

Sa Abril 3, lima ka kababainhan ang nakadawat karong tuiga sa Gro Brundtland Award nga gipahigayon sa Taiwan homan sa ilang bantogan nga trabaho sa pampublikong panglawas ug sustainable development. Usa sa lima nga nakadawat og ganti si Weena Gera, assistant professor sa University of the Philippines Cebu.

Ang ubang mananaog kay sila Barbara Burmen, usa ka senior research officer sa Medical Research Institute Center for Global Health Research sa Kenya; Natisha Dukhi, usa ka research specialist sa Human Sciences Research Council sa South Africa; Neha Dahiya, senior resident doctor sa India’s Maulana Azad Medical College; ug Sarva Mangala Praveena, usa ka associate professor sa Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Ang ganti gisugdan sa miaging Nowegian Primer Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, ang unang nakadaog sa Tang Prize sa sustainable developement, aron mailhan ang mga bantogang mga tigsaliksik nga mga kababainhan sa pampublikong panglawas ug sustainable development.

Sa seremonya nga gipahigayon sa National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), naghatag ug mubo nga mensahe bahin sa hisgotanan sa polusyon sa hangin ang kada mananaog.

Si Brundtland, nga naghatag sa ganti, midayeg sa mga tigpanukiduki sa ilang natabang ug nabuhat sa katilingaban hilabi na ang polusyon sa hangin usa sa mga isyu nga kinahanglang istoryahan.

Ang Gro Brundtland Award nagkinahanglang og kandidato nga babae, ubos sa 40 ang panuigon, gikan sa Taiwan kun uban pa nga third world nga mga nasod, dunay research doctorate ug nagdala og panukiduki mahitungod sa public health ug sustainable development.
