JIMMY NEUTRON REVIVAL PROJECT - UPDATE 30
It’s been almost a year since I’ve done any kind of updates. News has been slow, and I’ve not had a lot of motivation lately.
This week has been a tough one for me and for the fandom. One thing I absolutely don’t enjoy doing is damage control. And unfortunately, much of this blog entry is going to be just that. HOUSEKEEPING
First things first, I do have a housekeeping note regarding a fan account on twitter that has been stirring up a lot of trouble with fans of Nickelodeon programs, including Jimmy Neutron.
Very recently, someone created a fan account on twitter that has been proclaiming himself to be associated with Nickelodeon. Several fans alerted me to what was going on when they started sharing tweets of some of the things that the person who created the account was saying to them.
This account is pretending to represent Nickelodeon and the person running the account is going so far as to say that Nickelodeon and Viacom are working with said account, which is not true. This person is even trying to represent himself as being employed with the company.
In addition, the person running the account is harassing and bullying people who don’t believe any of the news he is sharing with his followers is true (it’s not, by the way). He has threatened to sue people, called people names using profanity, and many other repugnant things.
The worst part of all about this is that a voice actor somehow became included in one of the conversations with this phony fan account. He handled the situation quite well, for which I am grateful. However, that never should have ever happened. This was also brought to my attention by one of my twitter followers.
The account in question goes by the name of realnickfanclub. If you are following this account, you need to stop following them, report the account to twitter, and block the account. If twitter receives enough of these reports, it is my hope that they will do the right thing and take this account down. This account doesn’t represent who we are as a fan community or Nickelodeon, nor does it represent what twitter is supposed to be as a social media community.
The person running this account has, in my own opinion, already committed several illegal acts, especially with regards to claiming that his account represents Nickelodeon and that he is an employee there. It disappoints me that there are so many bullies out there like him, but sadly, bullies have become more and more of a presence in today’s society, especially on social media. It is up to us to report social media accounts that are associated with hate and vitriol.
THE NEWS REGARDING JIMMY NEUTRON
This is the part of my blog post that isn’t easy for me to discuss, but I feel I owe it to you all to explain what happened here.
As many fans know, myself included, the premiere of the very first episode of Jimmy Neutron was on July 19, 2002, which would make this year the 16th anniversary of the premiere of the TV-series.
In a tweet a few days ago, voice actress Debi Derryberry mentioned that the 16th anniversary of the show was the exciting news. She has also stated that as she is a voice actor, she would not know anything about the show coming back, but that we should continue to sign the petition and share it with everyone we know.
So that is it in a nutshell. No big news.
I am just the messenger here. I share tweets and other news and information when I get them, and I always try to share news from reliable sources. When I saw Debi’s tweet last week, I, like the rest of you, thought something big was happening. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
I want the show back as much as anyone, so of course, I was hyped and excited about it.
NOT MY FIRST RODEO
Last year, Nick Animation did a similar teaser back in September 2017, so this is not my first rodeo. I’ve been down this road before. It’s easy to get wrapped up in any kind of excitement as it is for the rest of the Neutron fanbase.
STEPPING BACK FOR NOW
In the meantime, I’m going to step back from this project to take a breather and re-evaluate where I should go from here. I am worn out from all of the events from the last few weeks and need to just do something else for a while.
