The Loneliness of Sobriety

When I quit drowning myself in brown paper bags putting the bottle away and learning to see straight again There are some things they just don't tell you. How do I make friends and meet people? Without a beer or two I'm too anxious to talk to anybody I don't know so every pretty face I wish to meet is just my brain torturing me

Because it thinks no one wants to meet me And I just can't figure out what words work When they're not being added to a page

I wish I could speak as eloquently

No one mentions this whole part of recovery I don’t know how to meet people when not on a stool my personality drowned long ago and now I don’t remember how I’m supposed to be not sure what it is that makes me, me

There’s a loneliness in the beginning when sobriety is fought so hard for because temptation is real and there’s only so many times one can relapse before no one gives a shit anymore and your still the addict you started with
