Agra Metro Project work during covid-19
For more than a month, the country has been struggling with the second wave of Corona. Due to this, the work of many government and private departments has come to a standstill, while the pace of development projects has also slowed down. But the construction work of the Agra Metro Project is going on at a rapid pace by the UP Metro Rail Corporation UPMRC.
In the same order, along with the construction of pile-caps and pillars in the Agra metro project, now the construction work of the first metro station has also started.
Construction of the first metro station of Agra Metro
In the Agra metro project, the first under-construction metro station (Taj East Gate Metro Station) of the Priority Section is now taking shape. The piling of grid A, B, and C for Taj East Gate metro station has been completed. The 6 Pillars have already been built-in Grid B and now a horizontal beam is being constructed here.
The pile caps are being constructed in Grids A and C. Currently, 3 pile caps have been made in both these grids. At the same time, the construction of the pillars from the Taj East Gate metro station towards the dead-end has been completed and now the construction of the median has been started by removing the temporary boundary wall, Due to this, the road has now started looking wider as before. UP Metro will do plantation in the median of metro corridors like Lucknow and Kanpur.
What is grid A, B, and C in the construction of metro station?
On the under-construction metro station, in the direction of the up line of any metro rail corridor and at the ground level where piling and pillars are constructed, the right side of the metro-line is called grid A, the left side is grid C, and the middle part is called grid B.
Progress of Agra Metro Priority Section
Piling, Piles Caps, and Pillars in the Priority Section of the Agra Metro are also being built at a rapid pace despite the Corona. Construction of 445 Piles, 57 Piles Caps, and 24 Pillars has been completed in the elevated portion of the Priority Section.

Kanpur Metro Project work progress during lockdown
For more than a month, the country has been fighting the second wave of Kovid-19. Due to this, the country has to take strict measures like lockdown and corona curfew in many states. Uttar Pradesh also has a lockdown since the beginning of May.
In a lockdown, according to the instructions of the government, it has been asked to call half of the employees in the government office, while all the work is closed except for the essential things. However, the construction of Kanpur Metro between the lockdown is in progress.
The UP Metro started casting of ballastless track in Priority Section of Kanpur Metro
The casting of ballastless tracks has started in the priority section of Kanpur Metro by the UP Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). UP Metro engineer cast the first crossover on the night of 11 May.
The crossovers in the metro rail project are the points from which the line and direction of the metro train change. In the priority section of Kanpur Metro, such crossover will be at the terminal metro stations IIT and Motijheel, and Geeta Nagar metro station, where there are plans to connect the polytechnic metro depot.
Keshav Kumar, Managing Director, UP Metro said, “We are moving towards timely completion of the priority section of the Kanpur Metro. Now we are moving towards the next phase in the Kanpur Metro project and we have tracks, Signaling-telecom, electrical and other systems have begun.”
UP Metro awarded the international contract for the supply of head hardened rail for the Kanpur Metro project, but existing sources are being used with the aim of saving time, in the same order, the remaining rails from the Lucknow Metro project are used in the Kanpur Metro project.

UP Metro erected second steel span at Rawatpur Tiraha within a month, signaling work | Kanpur Metro
This portal provides information, news, and updates about all metro projects of UP Metro Rail Corporation UPMRC and NMRC. In this post, the latest news update of Kanpur Metro is as follows, the second steel span successfully erected at Rawatpur Tiraha, started signaling and electrical work under the Priority Section of Kanpur Metro Project by UPMRC.
Kanpur Metro Project construction during the pandemic
These days, the country is facing a second wave of the epidemic, cases have also increased rapidly in Uttar Pradesh, especially in the capital Lucknow, Prayagraj, Kanpur, and Varanasi. Due to this, the weekly lockdown has also been imposed in the state, which has been extended to Monday.
Due to the epidemic, once again the employment of the people was badly affected, while half the employees are being called to government offices. But in spite of all this, the work of the Kanpur Metro Project is going on continuously. In this order, UP Metro has now erected another steel span within a month on Rawatpur tiraha.
Erection of second steel span at Rawatpur Tiraha within a month
On the night of April 23, 2021, the UP Metro successfully completed the erection of the second steel span on Rawatpur Tirahe in the priority section being built from IIT to Motizheel of Kanpur Metro Project. Earlier, on March 27, the first steel span was erected.
The distance between the pillars of the elevated metro track at Rawatpur Tirahe is 45 meters, so as not to obstruct the movement of vehicles on the Tiraha. Due to the greater distance between the two Pillars, the decision to use steel span instead of U-girder at this place was taken by UP Metro.
Due to this experiment, traffic on Rawatpur tiraha will remain completely smooth and it will not be affected due to the larger gap between the Metro Pillars. The erection of steel span is a major achievement in terms of civil engineering, which achieved by UP Metro under the Kanpur Metro Project.
Why did the Kanpur Metro project require a steel span at Rawatpur Tiraha?
In order to ensure smooth traffic on Rawatpur tiraha, UP Metro has increased the gap between the two pillars by 45 meters so that traffic is not obstructed due to the pillar between the tiraha. It was not possible to use U-Girders or I-Girders at a distance of 45 meters of two Pillars. Because of this, it was decided to use ‘Steel Box Girders’ in this span
According to a UP Metro official, the use of 45-meter U-girders in place of steel spans would lead to higher loads, which could pose a threat to concrete U-girders in the future. Due to this, UP Metro has used steel span in Kanpur metro project after Lucknow.
Specifications of steel span used in Kanpur Metro Project
The length of this steel span is more than the U-Girders being used in the Kanpur Metro Project, but its weight is relatively less. The 27-meter U-Girders weigh 147 tons, while the 45-meter steel span weighs about 120 tons.
