Waln’s Mill at Historic Walnford in Upper Freehold, #NewJersey. Richard Waln, a prosperous Quaker merchant from Philadelphia, bought the property in 1772. He constructed a home beginning in 1773. The first mill at the site was built circa 1734, rebuilt in 1822, and rebuilt again in 1872 after a disastrous fire. It was used until 1917. It is powered by a turbine rather than an external water wheel. The property also includes a carriage house (1879), corn crib, a large dairy barn (early 20th century), and other ancillary farm buildings. Two tenant houses also resided on the property but were destroyed by arson in 1969. In 1973, after 200 years of occupancy by the Waln family, Edward and Joanne Mullen purchased the property as their home. They donated the property to @moncountyparks in 1985. The complex was added to the @nationalregisternps in 1976 as Walnford Historic District. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #history #travelblog #travelblogger #blogger #blog #history #ushistory #history #americanhistory #explorenj #njspots #jerseycollective #journeythroughjersey #architecture #archi_ologie #upperfreehold #upperfreeholdnj #monmouthcountynj #walnford #waln #walnfordmill #walnmill #mill #nrhp (at Historic Walnford) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHEeAmlDEa5/?igshid=nwq84s9mfwbq
