OK Go’s new one-take video for Upside Down & Inside Out is the most fun you’ll ever have on an airplane.
Watching it is pretty much like this:
Okay, four guys with laptops sitting in a row. Pretty cool, visually: nice color scheme, very symmetrical. One guy is unbuckling his...oh, cool, zero gravity. This is a video shot in zero gravity. I like this video. I like the concept. It’s a good concept, is what it is.
Woah, big zoom-out there. This plane is a lot longer than I thought! And there are flight attendants - and they’re in zero gravity too, doing splits in mid-air! The guys are in the background now, taking the suitcases down from the overhead compartment and opening them - and they’re full of multicolored balloons! Now balloons are floating everywhere, along with the band and flight attendants, and now two guys have appeared with pinatas, and after busting the pinatas open, we’ve got candy floating all over the place, as well as discoballs, for some reason. This video is a goddamn party.
And now one of the guys takes one of the balloons and busts it open - and there’s paint inside! And the other guys pop the other balloons, and they’re all full of paint, paint of different colors! Paint on their clothes, paint on the walls! And we’ve got a marvelous disaster of a plane on our hands, full of people, suitcases, balloons, candy, discoballs, and paint, all different colors, all floating around like a zero-gravity rave. Just having watched it, I feel like I just went through a car wash in a Dr. Seuss book. What a sight to behold.
Oh, and the song kicks some serious ass, too.
