Climbing the o2
This weekend I climbed the o2. The o2 has 12 peaks for each month of the year, it is 52m high for each week of the year, and the diameter is 365m for each day of the year. We started at the base camp where we had to wait for our slot to begin. First we went through into a little room to watch a safety video before moving though to pick up our gear. The soles of our shoes were checked to ensure…

Not quite the top of the world, but O2 Arena has a good top too.
Nath Plays Drums on The O2 Arena
On Tuesday the 23rd of May I was lucky enough to be involved in a charity event called ‘Drummers on top of the O2′.
The name kind of explains itself, a load of drummers from around the country came down to the O2 Arena to climb up there and make some noise! It was all to raise money for a charity called The Roll Out The Barrel Trust, and the event was sponsored by The British Drum Company and Footes Music.
Here are a few words about it anyway 😀
THANK YOU! 🙌
Thanks so much for all your donations and thanks for all the support.
I don’t really know how to word it but I know we all felt what happened in Manchester on Monday night, in regards to this climb it was understandably very nearly cancelled. But as Adrain Brewer (CEO of The ROTBT) put it, it’s events like this climb which bring people together, show unity, and help to do a lot of good around the world. Rightly so, it was great that the people at The O2 allowed it to go ahead.

So … here’s what we did on the day
✅ We DID make it to the summit of what I’ve now named, ’Mount O2’ ⛏
✅ We DID have a snare drum with us, a stunning British Drum Co Merlin series provided lovingly by Rob and Stella from the superb London drum shop Footes Music. ✅ We DID make a lot of noise
✅ We DID have a lot of Fun
And finally … ✅ We DID raise a lot of money for a great cause.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting these guys, all fantastic people. You really can’t beat the drum community. 🥁 📸 - Talie Rose Eigeland
It’s been so much fun raising money playing gigs in and around Portsmouth 🇬🇧 The pub and club landlords, landladies, managers and staff + all the people in them have all been incredibly supportive. I have to say massive thanks to Dave Barrett, Ryan Hill, Michael Greenhalgh, Ben Quelch and “Broocie Bruce” for playing gigs with me as ‘The Bootlegs’ and various other bands, putting up with me dancing round with my charity bucket.
Hands in the air like ya just don’t care! A great night at one of the fundraising gigs. 📸 - Me
My top fundraising moments have been;
1. Taking and playing requests, even if we really didn’t know the song. Playing Rick Astley turned out to be incredibly fun, who’d of known??! 😅
2. Having a drum off with the pub landlord, on the same drum kit, at the same time! Big thanks to the legendary Johnny Garratt of the Phoenix in Northend.
3. Playing various drum solo’s in animal head masks. Sorry about the rabbit one on Easter Sunday, the mask span round and it looked like it’s neck had broke, quite horrific really …
4. Chatting live on Express FM’s 810 Retro Revolution, cheers George Wedlake for having me on.
5. Haggling with Graham from me local drum shop Graham Russel Drums for a large donation! We settled on that I had to wear a GRD shirt on the day. Cheers again Gray 😀
All of us drummers involved are still taking donations for a limited time so please check out our pages, if you did want to make a donation then please visit my fundraising page - CLICK HERE
And for more info about the charity please visit the Roll Out the Barrel Trusts web page, they’re all lovely people, they’re based on the isle of wight, and ALL the money goes to the cause. - CLICK HERE
Here’s a photo of me and Adrian demonstrating (racing 🏁) The water transportation barrels that The ROTBT make. These things really do make carrying of LOTS water really really easy. They will make a HUGE difference to a lot of people who have to walk miles just to get clean water. (I did explain to Adrain that these things would also work rather well with wine 😀🍷)

Thanks very much for reading. My next gig is with Kassassin Street at Common People Festival in Southampton on Saturday 27th, Main Stage 12:45. I’ll let ya know how it goes.
Cheers 👍
