Excuse ME?
"Excuse you!"
Beginnings
Sleeping in was uncommon for Zulf, but that morning Zia found she just couldn't stir him from his sleep. He must've been tired from everything that happened the past night, and she certainly didn't blame him for that. They had been awfully busy since after the storm . . .
But today was different, special, and certainly setting itself up to be absolutely memorable, especially since Zia wasn't the one sleeping in this time! It wasn't hard to stir the older Ura from his sleep, though, and he was quick to jump to life once he remembered their plans for the day.
Today was the day they would go to the city-- or rather, what was left-- and find whatever they could to help furnish the den. Their den. Finally, she was able to experience something of their culture! A moment in every young Ura's life that she never thought she would experience . . . and yet, there she was.
Zia packed lunch for them, neatly stored in a couple boxes she had taken from the Bastion's lost and found and wrapped carefully in a spare bandana. It was a nice lunch, one that didn't require heating or contained anything that needed to be kept cool, so it would last them their trek to the city and still be delicious for whenever they became hungry.
It was exciting to climb out of their hole in the ground together and look off into the morning horizon with the intention of setting out to start something . . . wonderful. Laughter bubbled in her throat as she watched the sun rise for a moment before tugging Zulf along down the path towards the city.
The trek was a decent length; Zia had forgotten how challenging it would be to get to the city since, well . . . the Calamity. But they managed all the same, and soon they were staring at the wall, the very same that held her in so long ago.
She took a deep breath, knowing she had nothing to fear anymore, and stepped through the tall entrance past the walls.
'Welcome to Caelondia', the sign read.
The rest would be easy from here, right?
Needles (Zulf)
La Tigresa sat cross-legged on the grass and facing the sky, muttering darkly to herself. She was a bit worse-for-wear after her adventures in the Wilds. The girl was just now finishing the arduous task of pulling all the stingers and thorns she had collected on that little adventure out of her body. There was already a small collection of the needles on the ground beside her--although there were others she had yet to take out. The Hispanic girl bit back a whine as she pulled another one out of her tail, which lay in her lap. That was the last of them. The last of them she could reach, anyway. There were still a few embedded in her back where she'd gotten caught by surprise. This would be so easy for another person to help her with--but Frida wasn't here, and so she had to take care of things herself. Before she could reach around and try to grab at the last of the needles, La Tigresa heard something--or rather, someone--behind her and twisted herself around, curiously.
