After 48 delirious hours in Buenos Aires, I boarded a ferry that took me to Uruguay in just over an hour. My first impression in 🇺🇾 was a girl sipping mate 🧉 while exiting a bathroom stall at the station 🤭. Probably, the culture of mate deserves a post on its own 🤓. Anyway, my first stop in Uruguay was Colonia del Sacramento, one of the oldest and prettiest towns in the country, home to a UNESCO World Heritage Historic Quarter and a lot of friendly animals. The town is picturesque and lovely but really, really tiny 😅 Despite its size, it used to be an important spot and was disputed between Spain, Portugal and at some point even Brazil before ending up belonging to Uruguay in 1828 🇺🇾. . . .
