Social media these days is like, here’s a video. Here’s a caption under the video. The caption refers to a country or a culture that’s not America. All the comments are crying about how “this doesn’t work because this is America”. We scratch our heads wondering where a “this” came from, seeing how this media is not American. One thousand non Americans say, but this isn’t America. This isn’t about America. You see the account that posted this? You see the caption? It says it’s a different country. Well, says the mistaken. Who reads the captions? Didn’t you hear the different accents? Different languages? Well, say the wrong. Who unmutes videos?
And we rinse, despair, repeat.
We are attempting to have conversations that are not fit for a shortform advertisement platform. We are attempting to fit larger a much conversation into a single photograph. These are aids but can never be the full dialogue.
And we rinse, despair, repeat.
