If Southern New England (Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island) was a state, it would be 7th most populous in the country, about the same as Ohio, while only 42nd in area, smaller than West Virginia. Only New Jersey, with the 12th highest population in the US, is more densely populated than those 3 states.
Alright let's be honest. Massachusetts rules New England. The only problem is that Rhode Island never listens, Connecticut wants to join New York, and Vermont and New Hampshire and Maine are kind of doing their own thing. But Massachusetts still rules New England. It's just that no one else wants to admit it.
