Fic prompt: college randy having a bad night and mike comforts him....

[this didn’t turn out very comforting lol]

When Randall stumbles back into their room at 3 am, Mike tries valiantly to stay asleep. It’s not that he doesn’t want to play mom to his roommate but- well, he doesn’t want to play mom to his roommate, and he has a pre-cal test tomorrow he really needs to sleep for, okay!? But there’s only so much stumbling and muttering and- oh no. was that..?

“Randall?” Mike sits up, the blanket pooling in his lap as he twists to squint at his roomie he’d seen less and less of recently as the parties ramped up, “Are you…” He bites his lip uncertainly, wondering suddenly if it would have been less embarrassing and awkward for both of them if he’d just pretended to be asleep, “Are you crying?”

There’s several sniffles and a muffled burp before Randy composes himself enough to respond, “...No.” he says, very unbelievably.

Mike’s eye finally adjusts to the low light and he finds himself looking at a very pitiful sight, with Randall sitting on the floor, curled around Mikes desk trash can and laying his head miserably on his bed, body contorted uncomfortably to make allowances for his position. He’s got four arms holding the trash can, two bracing himself against the floor, one thrown on top of his bed, and another one futilely wiping away tears.

If Mike were a more selfish person, he’d have accepted that flimsy lie and gone back to bed, unfortunately Mike has a conscience- so he rolls out of bed and flips on his desk lamp. Randall whimpers at the light, using four arms to cover his eyes and abandoning his attempt to remain upright, sinking to the floor with a thump and curling around the can.

Mike sighs quietly, stepping over and quietly passing a hand through Randalls fronds in what he’s hoping is a comforting gesture, “What happened? Why are you upset?”

Randall sniffles loudly, “I’m dru-u-uuunk!” He sobs, burying his face in his hands and wiping away his tears.

“You’re upset… because you’re drunk?” Mike surmises flatly.

Pausing in his sobbing, Randall glares up at Mike pathetically, “Yes!” He says dramatically, as if Mike was silly for asking lifting his head up and flopping over mikes head, “And I barely drank anything at all!” he whines, “And now I feel like I'm going to throw uu-u-uuup!!!”

“Okay, well,” Mike pushes the bucket closer to him apprehensively, “Try not to do that all over the floor, or me.”

Randall slides down and lets himself fall headfirst into the trash can.

There’s a beat of silence, and then Mike accepts that his night sucks, and stands up, “C’mon, Randy, I can’t lift you on my own. Uppp and at ‘em!” He grabs Randalls upper set of arms and tugs him up, bouncing him up and down to try and spur him into action.

Randall hangs there limply, frowning like a kicked puppy.

Lifting him with all his strength, mike spends the next twenty minutes hauling Randall slowly up into his bed- jeeze, how does this scrawny little lizard weigh THIS MUCH? “You need… to go on… a DIET!” Mike wheezes, dropping Randalls leaden body the last of the way onto his bed. He yanks randalls bedsheets out from under him, tossing them on top of him recklessly, breathing hard. Randall blinks his wey eyes sadly, and Mike sighs, “Listen, just… get some sleep. Tomorrow is Saturday, you can sleep in. You’ll feel better when you wake up.” He’ll actually probably have a raging hangover, but Mike wasn’t above empty platitudes to get him to sleep.

“Hey, uh, Mike?” Randall says softly, and Mike turns around, waiting for a thank you or a I appreciate all you’ve done for me or a You’re the best roommate ever to tumble out of Randalls mouth-

“Tuck me in.”
