My Type, written by the American band Saint Motel was a joke poking at the fact that AJ Jackson didn’t really have a “type”. The song basically says that anything that “has a pulse and is breathing” is his type.
The video was a very important aspect to the band. They wanted it to be a timeless song, so they found a 70′s mansion in Los Angeles to shoot their video. The style of the music mixed with the film and mansion style was successful in reaching their goal.
This song has been in the movies Paper Towns and Mr. Right. It was also on some soccer video games such as FIFA 15 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2016. The band performed this song on the Late Late Show with James Corden in April 2015.
My Type made several US Billboard charts. The highest the song reached in the US was number 5 on the Adult Alternative Songs chart. It also reached number 34 in the UK and number 14 in Italy, where it also went double platinum.
